As the two continued to tell him stories of their time at the police academy, Leon excused himself to call Melody. He figured he should talk to her about what happened at home, plus that way Megan could be alone with her father. He dialed her number and waited for Melody to answer.

The ringing stopped and he heard her voice. "Hey, Leon."

"Hey, Melody. Sorry, I didn't call you when I got back... something happened."

"Oh no. Is everything alright?"

He gently rubs the back of his neck, glancing through the window door. "My Dad got into a bad car accident... he's in the hospital and it's been tough right now."

A small gasp was heard. "I'm sorry Leon, is he doing well?"

"He is, just recovering, and right now Megan is in there with him. She's the one who's trying her best not to break down in tears, so I'm going to help her get through this."

"That's very sweet of you Leon, she deserves a friend like you."

"Yeah... she does."

"Does this mean you will stay in your hometown? I hope that doesn't sound insensitive since you told me you wanted to go to Raccoon City."

"It's alright, for now, I'm just going to stay here. I don't want to leave those two alone like this. I'm sure they'll understand."

"Right. Family comes first."

"Exactly." He glanced back at the window door to see Megan lying her head next to her father's lap, how he would gently ruffle her hair as she rested comfortably against him. "Megan needs me... I'll do whatever I can to be there for her."

"I know you will." She let out a small sigh. "This must be very hard on her, I would hate to hear her suffering like that. She's lucky to have you."

"Yeah, I have to go soon. We can talk later?"

"Sure, call me whenever you are free or need anything. Don't hesitate because of what happened. I'll understand."

"Thanks, Melody."

"No problem, I love you, Leon..."

Leon took a second to pause before he answered, "I love you too... Melody." He hung up the phone, a heavy sigh escaping him. He couldn't help but feel a slight tinge of guilt bubbling in. Not wanting to deal with that feeling, he pushed it down and entered the room to see Megan peacefully sleeping. Jake gently played with her hair. "Sorry if I took so long."

Jake softly smiled. "Not at all, who was on the phone with you? Is it a girl?"

Leon nervously groans. "Dad..."

"I'm only teasing son, but is it a girl?"

"Yes Dad, it was my girlfriend..."

"I'm so happy for you son, when will I get to meet this girlfriend of yours?"

"I don't know, she kinda lives far. Maybe in the future."

"No need to rush, I don't mind the wait."

Leon glanced at Megan still asleep, he decided to sit next to him on the other side of the bed. "I did the best I could, watching her and such..."
