Louis
Like a baby, Jules slams her door shut as she walks to her room. But Makayla stays out here. What havoc is she gonna wreak today?
After a long pause, she finally speaks. "Good night," she says. Then she walks back to her room and closes the door. I can see her light shut off through the crack under the door.
I stand there confused. I could stand here for ages, trying to figure out what 'Good night' could mean! She could care less who she said night to!–so what's with the sudden change?
I try to ignore it and go to my room, falling asleep on my own as well.
When I wake up, I'm greeted by Makayla's cat jumping on my stomach. "Mackerel, get off me!" I yell in a whisper. The cat continues its annoyance, not giving a damn if I want him to stop or not.
Outside my door in the main common room, I hear Makayla shout. "Jordyn, have you seen Mackerel? He's not in his bed!"
I sigh. "Dumb cat." Then I pick him up, and walk him out of my room and into the living room, not caring to fix my hair. "I found your cat, Makayla."
She looks at me, then Mackerel. The first smile I've seen all year from her that isn't from laughing at the disgrace of other people just happened as she laid her eyes on the wretched cat. She's got to love the cat a buttload's amount of love if she'd smile for him. Then, she runs to me, snatching the cat back and walking to her room, talking to him as if he were a baby. "What did I say about sneaking into other people's rooms, Mack!"
It's amazing how different she can act when she's genuinely happy. It can be soothing. Especially someone that she has had it out for since the minute we all got sorted.
When I walk to The Great Hall, all I can think about is what Makayla said last night. 'Good night.' It echoes through my mind, over and over, as I try to figure out what it means, but in conclusion, I always have nothing.
Maybe it was just a simple 'good night' with no meaning. Maybe she gained some politeness over the summer. Or, perhaps it means something different, and she's letting me decide what that is.
When I reach The Great Hall, that's when I realize that I slept half the day, as it is lunchtime.
I awkwardly sit down. Nobody seems to notice, so I sigh in relief and start eating my lunch.
Then, someone barges in through the door, yelling, "TROLL! TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!" I look over to see it is Professor Quarrel. Everyone looks at him blankly. "Thought you'd wanna know," he says, before passing out on the floor.
Everyone starts screaming, including the younger Slytherins, like Draco. I don't scream
Side Note from Mattheo Riddle: He does scream.
I jump up and start running toward the exit of The Great Hall though. Only to be interrupted by Professor Dumbledore shouting: "SILENCE!" Everyone stops right in their places, including me. "Head students, guide your houses back to the common rooms. Teachers, follow me to the dungeons."
Head students, also known as Head girls, Head boys, and Prefects, start guiding their houses back to the common room. That's when, surprisingly, Jordyn and I agree on something. Someone is missing.
