"i've never heard silence quite this loud..."
Makayla
My head is still on the table as the arguing gets louder every second. It was overwhelming the moment it started, and it's all about me. Usually I would love the attention, but not today.
The yelling increases and I snap. "EVERYONE JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
Everyone's eyes land on me. Their mouths are finally shut. Sometimes I wish I could sew them shut so they'd permanently be quiet.
"Woah," Cedric's voice chuckles as I feel his hands on my shoulders. "You okay?"
I gaze upon him, and hesitantly say, "Yeah."
"Good, he smiles, sitting in between Jordyn and I.
Everyone goes back to what they were doing prior to the argument, meanwhile Ann, Jordyn, Louis, Cedric, and I sit here awkwardly.
I turn to Cedric, "Can I talk to you?"
"Sure," he shrugs.
I grab his hand and take him out into the hallway, which is now empty.
"What's up?" he ask.
"Uh," I stammer as I meet eyes with Sir Nicholas. I sigh, "Sir Nicholas, may you please make sure that no one comes out here?"
He nods and goes into The Great Hall.
I sigh in the most dramatic way possible, turning back to Cedric.
"What's going on?" he laughs awkwardly.
"I have something to tell you," I say, clasping my hands together.
"Obviously," he laughs.
"This is serious, Cedric."
"Okay, okay, I'm listening."
"A month ago, something happened."
"Well, I figured."
"What?"
"I heard the Malfoys on the train talking about you, so—"
"I ran away," I interrupt him.
The silence is louder than the arguing from earlier. I wish to abolish any type of noise, including the bittersweet sound of silence that always seems to be in my life no matter how hard I try to be rid of it. Unfortunately, Genies don't exist, and no sort of wish I have may be granted.
I want to smile at the sound of Silence's back snapping when Cedric clears his throat, "What?"
Suddenly, I'm unable to speak. My throat has grown try and my tongue is paralyzed. My lips refuse to part except for when I let out a brief sigh. The silence refuses to do me justice, though.
"Are you fucking with me right now, Malfoy?"
Malfoy. That last name basically sums up who I am. I'm just a normal girl with a family name full of bullies plastered all over my face. I hate it. That name poisons everything around me so nothing can touch me. What if I want something to touch me?
"No," I manage to say. "I'm being serious."
"Why?" he asks. "Why'd you run away?"
"He hit me," I accidentally let the words fall out. Shit. Why'd I say that? I shouldn't have said that. What if someone heard me? Those Godforsaken half bloods would spread rumors about it and I'd be done for. Stupid kids.
"What?" his voice sounds broken and when I look into his eyes, I notice tears emerging.
I sigh in an unfortunate tone, "I'm fine, now. I've been staying with Jordyn."
"But he hit you."
"He's finally been able to become a worse father. He should get a medal at this poi—"
Cedric walks mover to me and pulls me into his chest. My hands relax awfully quick and wrap around his upper torso.
"If he touches you again," he says, "I'll kill him."
