"if the whole world was watching, i'd still dance with you."

Makayla

I'm sitting against a wall with Jordyn, Louis, and Mattheo standing on either side of me. Snape is standing in the middle of the room, clearly not enjoying that he has to do this.

He clears his throat before mumbling to all of the Fourth Years and older students, "The Yule Ball has been a tradition of the Tri-Wizard Tournament since its inception."

A ball? Seriously?

"They can't be serious," Louis murmurs under his breath, which causes me to snort.

"On Christmas Eve night, we and our guests gather in the Great Hall for a night of well-mannered frivolity. As representatives of the Slytherin house, I expect all of you to be on your best behavior... I do not need you weasels running around embarrassing me for yet another year."

I hold back another laugh as Louis does the same.

"The Yule Ball is first and foremost... a dance," Snape says, causing a majority of the Slytherins in the room to groan.

I take this moment of loudness for me to laugh, and it seems like Louis does the same. How do they expect us to take a dance seriously when we can't even take school seriously?

"Silence!" Snape shouts, and the room quickly shuts up. "As the head of the house of Salazar Slytherin, I will not have you all misbehave at the cost of one pathetic night. To dance is to let the body... breathe..."

As he rambles on and on, you can see that Snape really is dreading having to do this. Then, he calls on a student to perform the example. A female student.

I hold my breath as he looks throughout the girls. That breath shortly becomes a laugh as he calls on Pansy.

"Miss Parkinson, please enter the dance floor," he murmurs.

Pansy hesitantly steps forward as I let out a snort. So does Jordyn. I feel bad, but this is hilarious.

"I'm going to place my hand on your waist, I suppose," Snape murmurs as he does so, showing the boys how to dance properly. I can't stop myself from letting out a low whistle, which clearly pisses Pansy off.

They dance together and soon enough, we have to practice with our classmates. Louis turns to me as Jordyn and Theo take each other as partners.

I catch his eyes and shake my head, laughing, "Absolutely not."

"Oh come on!" he pleads.

"You'll step on my feet!"

"Will not!"

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, really!"

"Fine, then!"

"Fine!" he says as we walk onto the dance floor reluctantly and do as Snape said.

I accidentally step on his foot not a few seconds in and we can't help but burst out laughing.

"You hypocrite!" he says, laughing.

"You have big feet!" I try to defend myself, laughing as well.

"Alright," he says as he calms down. "Let's try again."

I nod as we get back in the... position...? I don't even know what to call it—but we get back in whatever that is and start dancing again. This time, we do it well. A few people around us are surprised to see us dancing together, but I ignore them.

This is just practice, it's not like I could've danced with anyone else. No one was going to ask us. Or maybe someone would have—whatever! We didn't have much choice! So they can just get over it.

But I have to admit, he is a good dancer.

I guess.
