Connor had a new found sense of happiness to go with his excitement of his new job. He packed up his apartment and said goodbye to Sharron and the rest of his friends at med. He had phoned his sister to say goodbye but she was out of town. Connor drove out of the city, his life packed into serval suitcases, as he had helped Ava do a year and a half before.
It was late in the night when Connor arrived to his hotel. He went to the front desk and received his keycard. All the doctors were being put up here for the first few weeks, they weren't expected until tomorrow night but Connor felt it would be best to drive down early and get settled. He took the elevator up to his room. Shutting the door behind him and took off his shorts, not bothering to unpack after his long drive he got undressed and collapsed into the bed.
They next morning Connor woke late, he showered and left his room for some brunch before planning to return to unpack. Connor pressed the button on the left and began moving to the ground floor. He stepped out, the lobby brightly lit in the sun. A head of him a blonde women walked, her hair in a tight ponytail that stopped just short of her shoulders. She stopped to push open the front door and Connor realised the familiarity of her.
"Ava" he said hopefully, quickening his pace.
She turned around, a bright smile on her face.
"Dr. Rhodes? Long time no see" they stepped out of the hotel together, briefly embracing.
"When did you get here?" He asked.
"Two nights ago, I wanted to get settled, and I needed a break" she said, knowing she wouldn't need to explain.
"We're you heading out?" He asked.
"Oh, no. Well, yes. I was just going for a coffee. Do you want to join me?" She offered.
"Yeah" he nodded, "I'd love to""Which room are you in?" She asked as they walked down the street.
"104, I think?"
Ava nodded, "I'm two floors above you"
"Have you been up to the roof yet?"
"No, why?"
"There a pool and sauna on the top floor"
"I'm sure you're making full use of that"
"I am, every morning" she crossed her arms over herself.
Connor followed Ava, who seemed to have developed a good sense for the city despite only being here for two days. They arrived at a small park in the heart of Rochester and stopped at coffee shack. They got their hot drinks and sat a bench.
"Nice flight?"
"I drove down actually, just wanted to clear my head"
Ava nodded, knowing exactly how he felt.
"I started looking for apartments but the rental game seems fierce"
"I have most of my stuff in a lock up down town" she took a sip from her drink.
"That is a good idea, most of my stuff is thill in my car" he realised he should have sourced storage before moving.
"I'll send you on the information, the guy that owns it is from Zimbabwe" she shrugged.Ava's phone dinged on the bench next to them and she glanced to in before taking a deep breath, burring the device on her pocket.
"Andrew?"
"Mhm" she nodded. "I don't know why he keeps messaging"
"Sorry" she apologies for having brought the mood down.
"It's fine, you know I'm always here"
Ava smiled softly, "We should probably head back and get ready for the mixer tonight"They walked back to the hotel together, a noticeable amount of more cars in the car park.
"Actually I have something for you" she recalls, walking them to her room"
She helped the door open and Connor stepped in behind her. Ava's room was exactly like his own, a few of her things unpacked. Toiletries in the bathroom and shower with flip flops let outside them. A book on the night stand and a few clothes in the wardrobe.
"Here" Ava turned to him, extending her arm out.
Connor wrapped his hand around the umbrella.
"Right" Connor nodded, remembering. A part of him trying to recall why they had lost touch all that time ago.
"I'll see you tonight" she let go.
"I'll see you tonight"*
Ava fluffed our her curls and smoothed her hands down her black trousers. She felt more confident in herself knowing a familiar face would be there.
Connor arrived at the event in a light blue shirt with the top button undone. He wore cufflings and check to make sure his hair was okey before going in. There was doctors from all over the world in the room, for every specialty there was.
He went to the bar and ordered a whiskey, settling against the bar with his drink. A man approached him with a drink in hand,
"It's lovely to meet you, I'm Jeremih Bright, an advisor of Mr. Harris"
"Connor Rhodes" he shook his hand.
"Connor Rhodes, I've heard a lot about you. You were our topic for your field and a second choice for another. In high demand"
"I must introduce you to someone" he lead him away.
"Dr. Rhodes, this is Dr. Bekker" he walked him over to a young blonde women who turned to face them.
"Dr. Bekker, this is out new chief of trauma, Dr. Rhodes" he explained.
A smirk grew on Ava's lips, "Ava" she held out her hand.
"Connor" he replied.
"Lovely to meet you"
"Likewise" Connor shook her hand.
"You two will be spending some time together, I imagine?"
