Chapter 56- Speak Now

Ava tried on a pair of legging, checking out her figure in the mirror. She looked at her sports bra. No she couldn't just walk around in that. Taking Brooklyn's advice was becoming harder than she expected.
Ava pulled a hoodie over her head. This was her first night with Connor, did they have breakfast together? Drive to work?
The whole things made her uncomfortable.

She made her way into the kitchen. The cost was clear and the sofa made up. She opened the fridge. "Hey" Connor said, coming out of the bathroom freshly showered in the same clothes as yesterday. "I, I wasn't sure if you were okey with me going into the bedroom to get clothes. While you were there"
"Yeah, yeah it's fine" she gestured to the door.
"Cool" he nodded, glancing down her legs.
He was checking out her ass.
Ava watched him go. Maybe Brooklyn's advice was working.

Ava started on a breakfast for herself. Still unsure of where they stood. Maybe living together wasn't for the best.
"I'm going to head out" Connor said, dressed, grabbing his bag as he went.
"I'll see you later"
He closed the front door behind him. His face in his hands.
Cool? Who even says cool? What was he twelve?
He rubbed his forehead and made his way to his car.

Ava watched the closed door for a moment. Before turning back to her breakfast.
I guess this is what it's like now.
She plated up her breakfast turning to the dinner table, she stopped.
There was a fresh bouquet of  chrysanthemum on the dinner table. Set into Ava's favourite vase. Were they there the night before? She tried to recall.
Opening the bin Ava found the plastic of flowers sitting on top.

They made them way to work separately, Ava drove herself. She made her way up to her office, seeing a familiar face.
"Ava" she wrapped her arms around her, "hey"
"Ini" she melted into her arms.
Ini lead her into her office, "how are you, you weren't responding to any of my messages"
"I had my phone turned off for the most part, but I saw them don't worry"
"So you and Connor?"
"We're still living together" she said.
"Okey" Ini nodded.
"It was a bit awkward this morning but we'll get used to it"
"So are you back together"
"No, not as such. But I think we can work on it"
"He's making some statement about the whole thing"

Ini nodded, "you ever need a break from that apartment, you know Vic and I will take you in" she touched her arm. "Thank you" Ava held her arm.
Ava went around her day, doing as many surgeries as she could to keep her busy, and staying out of the halls as much as she could. Hiding away in her office.

There was a knock on the door and she jumped slightly, spotting Connor behind the glass. He opened the door..
"Are you going home now?" He asked from the frame.
"Yeah"
"Okey, I just wanted to make sure you were home before I released a press statement"
"Didn't want you bombard by press"
Ava held his gaze, "I'll see you back at the apartment then"

He walked off without another word and Ava picked up her bag, leaving hastily. When she was home she showered, waiting for the news to arrive. She made dinner, putting his in the oven. She made her way to her room, her peace.
She laid back her laptop on her lap, her phone pinged on her bed.

Connor Rhodes Releases Statement on recent child speculation.

There has been recent talk about my personal life the has made its way into the tabloids. I have had previous relations with Robyn Charles while working at Chicago Med with her. We have not been romantically involved since late 2019. Miss Charles has a child by another man. I have no children with her and have never claimed to.

I condemn the treatment of Ava Bekker who remained innocent and uninvolved through this, and any paper that published about her. I ask for time and privacy going further; with any further publication of this matter in relation to Ava Bekker leading to the paper being blacklisted Dolen and Rhodes publishing.
