Chapter 25- Illicit Affairs

Ava woke, stretching out over the bed she rolled onto her side. Connor's head was titled towards her, his eyes closed. She watched him for a moment, brushed his hair from his face.
Ava pulled a cape over her shoulders, making her way out of her bedroom.

She padded across the living room, pouring herself a glass of water she stood at the counter and checked her emails. They'd driven to her place straight from work.
Arms wrapped around her waist, "come back to bed?" He kissed her neck.
"I didn't think you were up" she took his hand, kissing his knuckles.
His hands wandered under her robe.
"Connor-" she turned to him.
Scooping her up he set her on the countertop, meeting her lips, his hand on her ribs.
"Avery" he purred.
"Mhm?"
"Who did it better?" He rubbed her thigh.
"What?"
"Me or Andrew" he breathed into her ear.
Ava's eyes sprang open with the realisation of what he meant, "Oh! I'm not answering that" she pushed him back. Jumping off the counter, "You're ego is big enough" she laughed.
"You don't have to, Avey" he coaxed her back in, her back to the counter, "I think we both already know"

Ava ran a hand through her hair, a towel tightly around her.
"Can't you stay?" He said, laid in her sheets.
"No, I'm having dinner with Ini at her place, I can't be late"
She lifted her leg onto the bed, rubbing her moisturiser into her legs and arms.
"Your killing me" he rolled over. Ava threw a shirt at him, "you'll live"
She turned her back to him, changing into her outfit.
"When will you be back?" He asked, "we could go for a movie?"
She climbed into his lap.
"Sleeping over" she kissed his lips, "I have my bag packed already"
"You're more then welcome to stay here if you'd like? Get a quite night sleep?"
"No, it's okey. I'll head back, I want to see Owen anyway" he pecked her lips.
"Okey, well I'll be back around twelve tomorrow, if you find yourself in the area"
"Oh well, you know I might be in the cafe around the corner at one"
Ava tilted her head.
"Two O'Clock"
She kissed him on last time, "I'll see you tomorrow"

Ava approached Ini house, bag in hand she spotted some snow boots by the front door, drying off. Ini answered the door before her, "Ava!" She threw her arms around her.

They got to work together, Ini insisting on making the fufu so it would be just the way she liked while Ava worked on the Ox Tail soup.
"I didn't see you much today" Ini said, getting a work out beating the fufu.
"My shift ended a bit earlier, it does that sometimes"
"But I have a earlier start"
"I wouldn't mind that" she thought out loud.
"What do you do with all that extra time Dr. Bekker?"
Ava took some of the fufu, eating it with her thumb.
"Nothing much" she shrugged.

Ini poured them some wine and Ava plated up the dinner for the two.
"Getting a bit romantic" Ava a teased, setting there plated down as Ini lit some candles.
"You know I love you" she bumped hips, coming over to Ava to wash her hands.
"How's work been?" Ini asked as they sat down.
"Good, yeah. Some nice projects coming up" Ava scooped up some soup.
"What about you and lover boy?"
Ava swallowed the fufu in her hand.
"He keeps his things at my place"
Inu pulled her hand away from her face.
"Oh! Oh I knew it!" she slammed her hand on the table.
"You have made me a very happy lady you know that?"

"Now tell me everything"
"Tell you everything? What about these men's boots in the doorway"
Ini sat back in her chair.
"It's so people don't think I live alone" she shrugged, sipping her wine.
"Mhm, with your house surrounded by a fence I'm sure that's a real concern for you"

They finished their dinner, washing the plates by hand since Ini lived alone. Leaving them to dry by the sink. They continued taking on couch with another half a glass of wine each before making their way upstairs near midnight.

They brushed their teeth together, Ava leaning against the wall of Ini's en-suite bathroom. Her taste was much like Connor's, sleek and clean. Ava washed her face and used to bathroom once Ini was gone, sending a quick goodnight to Connor while she was alone.

Ava turned her phone off before pushing off from the sink. She changed into her pyjamas and opened the door to the bedroom, climbing into the free side of the bed.
Ini wrapped up her Fulani Braids in her bonnet, turning to Ava.
"Nothing tastes as good as fresh braids feel" she stretched, climbing into bed.
"No more natural hair?"
"Nah, I was feeling some braids. There a bit harder to tie up for surgery but we managed" she laid on her stomach on the bed.

"Goodnight" Ini said in a sing song tone, she moved to switch off the bedside lamp before something caught her eye.
"What is this?" Inu grabbed the collar of Ava's shirt.
"What?" Ava rubbed her eye.
She pulled the covers back, "I can't believe you would bring this filth into my house" she jumped out of bed, going to her draws she pulled out a night shirt, throwing it at Ava.
"Take that Springbok jersey off now"
"Fine, fine, fine" Ava pulled the shirt over her head.
Inu picked the shirt up off the bed, quickly flinging in onto a nearby chair.
"Dramatic much?" Her head hit the pillow once more.
Ini turned to Ava on the bed.
"You seem happy with Connor, you know?"
Ava rolled to her side, "I really like him"
