Abhijeet's POV
"She needs her Megha and you are her Megha, Jeet"
My eyes clashed with Raj Chettan as we looked at Jaan bewildered but her eyes were on Chettathi.
"Jaan......"
" We hurt her Jeet except you"
" Not only words, actions also hurts" I replied somberly
" Agreed but at this point, you are the one person who could reach her"
" What do you mean, Megha?"
Raj Chettan's question was mirrored in my eyes too.
Taking a deep breathe, she turned to Raj Chettan,
" Don't mind me, Chetta. It is the truth that the first person to pierce Chettathi's armour was Jeet....."
Jaan then focused on me,
" ....You yourself used to boast about how you were her first friend. Now she needs that friend. We hurt her, hurt her badly and it is up to us to patch up the cracks we are responsible for. She is in pain, Jeet, not angry. If she was then she would not have taken care of our Mehul. I am certain she did it for you, Jeet...Now it's your turn ....redeem yourself...."
I was hearing Jaan but my heart was not in sync with my mind. They both were at crossroads. One was screaming at me to provide Chettathi the blanket of comfort she was deprived of while the other was nervous of the rejection.
"Abhi..."
Raj Chettan's voice brought me out of my thoughts and I was shocked to see his eyes shimmering with tears.
"Megha is right. Anita always used to have a special spot for you not just because you are the youngest but you are the only one in front of whom she could be just herself. I am sure , the pain she is reluctant to share, she will let you soothe "
Even with all the encouraging words, my legs refused to move forward. I looked towards Chettathi who was doing the mundane task of folding clothes, which took me back to a time of joy and laughter.
"What are you doing?"
" What ! I am just helping you out."
" Abhi, I just have to fold these clothes. It is not a big deal"
" Exactly. So why can't I help you"
Saying this I snatched the shirt from her hand and started folding in my own ulta pulta style. I could see her cringing at each fold but I royally ignored her.
" Stop it , Abhi. You are not helping instead increasing my load. I am getting squeamish seeing what you are doing to that poor shirt"
She forcefully pulled back the shirt and began meticulously fold and arrange it.
" Don't look at the result instead see the thought behind it" I said offended, then releasing a fake sigh I continued
" Alas...nobody now values me AT ALL"" Aaaahhhhh" I suddenly screamed out as I felt a twist to my ear
" Oye...don't be so melodramatic...."
"Chettathi...Chettathi...leave me...it is paining"
Immediately I felt the release in pressure
" You sure know how to twist ears. I pity your kids" I said rubbing my ears but sensing silence I looked up to see her in tears.
"Chettathi...what happened?" I asked in concern
"You called me Chettathi..." She replied emotionally
I was stunned for a moment . Realising the sensitivity of the situation, I opted to make it jovial.
" Then what should I call my elder brother's wife....Now let's finish off this. From the time you have come, I have seen you doing one work or the other. Hmmph....my brother didn't bring you as our maid"
"He was forced to bring me"
Listening to the misery in her voice,
I gulped down the lump in my throat.Gathering all my courage, I took hold of her hands and made her sit on the bed while I kneeled down.
"Forced or not , you were destined to be his , so here you are. I know you were not welcomed as you should be but that doesn't mean that you don't deserve it. Give Acha, Amma some time. Like I understood what a Kohinoor my brother got, they will realize none could be better than you for him. Regarding my brother, he would not have brought you here if he had not accepted this relationship. I know my brother. He is just guilty that he hurt our parents even if unknowingly. Just stand by him. Like you are the best for him, he will be the best for you"
A smile started blooming on her face . Eyes were still shimmering with tears but it now had a tiny shine of happiness.
"Thank you ,Abhi" the words were overwhelmed with emotions and I have to close my eyes to bring mine under control.
After which I opened my eyes to retort
in the most dramatically way possible while posing with my hands on my forehead."What has the world come to. Now you will thank your brother."
That was all it took, she burst out laughing. Seeing that beautiful view, I thanked that at least this time my theatrics were able to bring joy to a wounded soul.
"What Chettathi, you are also laughing at me" I pouted my lips and fake glared at her
"Of course not,Abhi. You gave me the one thing that I have lost. Hope. Thank you for being my friend. Our relation may pass through many changes but this friendship will always be the foundation for it."
The smile never once left her face as she said this while holding my hand in between hers.
That moment a bond was forged forever between us
How did I let the bond falter?
Did I become blind by my pains?
When did distance came between us?
Was it our fault or someone else's?
I needed answers and Chettathi is the only one who can give me those.
With a newfound determination, I stepped forward to reignite the dying embers.
Chettathi was oblivious to my presence and got startled as I gently took the clothe from her hand.
Her eyebrows were furrowed in confusion but widened on my next sentence.
" What ! I am just helping you out"
