Chapter 56

Author's POV

For the three brothers, each layer of truth were ripping them apart.

Different emotions were ruling their actions.

"How could you,Amma? Blaming an innocent soul,....that too our princess....." Abhi roared in his rage

"You accursed our Ammu....ou..our Ammu...my daughter is your granddaughter too...." disappointment laced Raj's voice

"You cannot be our Amma. Our Amma was the epitome of love not this selfish woman" said Ram scornfully.

Everyone was pouring out their anguish when suddenly,

"Stop it all of you,right there....." Amma's thunderous voice boomed in the room silencing all at once

" I have been listening to all of your blabberings for some time now. I am not speaking doesn't mean that you can dance on my head."

"What will you say after all this?" Abhi asked dejected

"What have I done so bad that you people are disrespecting me like this?"

Hearing her outrageous question, the family could only stand there staring at her incredulously.

"Raj, you are my pride. So, is it wrong of me to hope for a perfect partner for you. I understand in what circumstances you got married but the fact of the matter will be Priya is 100 times better than Anita in family, blood and education. Thereby,if I had mentioned it to her once or twice,what big crime have I committed? And, yes Ammu is my own granddaughter and yes I admit, I asked Anita to keep her away from Meenu after Megha's miscarriage but it was for precaution...... You people are pampering her left right with no sense of right and wrong. She has so much toys that it is lying all around the house and Megha did slip on one of those only. Then how am I wrong?"

"My daughter is not a bad omen" Raj retorted dangerously

" Your belief does not matter instead the truth is, our home began falling apart after her birth only.....Megha lost her child, Abhi left home , even your relationship with Anita became strained....What will you say about that? Look I care for her too and if I had reprimanded her then it will be good for her because one day she has to go and look after her own house and till then, it will be better for all of us if we keep her at a little distance"

" Wow....you don't have any shame over your actions and still speaking against that poor soul" Ram burst at his mother on listening to her irrational tirade.

"You don't have any leg for your anger,Ram. What did I do to you or to your darling wife? I have loved and pampered Karthi,always..." Amma defended herself

"Yes you did but suppose Karthi was in place of Ammu, you would have still done the same thing"

"Don't say anything against him, our Karthi is the pride of this family. He can never be a bad omen like her" she vehemently opposed Ram.

A stunned silence prevailed immediately after this statement of hers. The moment was nothing short of an eye opener for all the brothers. 

They never knew about Amma's partiality towards boys as they were no girls in the family till now. But now they suddenly could relate her past actions to both Ammu and Karthi vividly. They always ignored her preference to Karthi citing as he is the youngest in the house but never did they imagine, it could be due to her regressive thinking towards girls.

Before they could come out of their shock, Amma turned towards Abhi,

"You also blame me,right Abhi?....Where did I go wrong in my upbringing? Didn't I give you all the love and care? Didnt I support you in your dreams? But you also did not think once before leaving me, following your wife.......Now coming to Megha, I have always treated her as my daughter and still do. I wish her well  but maybe not as my daughter-in-law......What is wrong in wishing for a complete family for my baby ? I know how much you love kids and even thought I feel bad for Megha, I dont regret my actions and won't hestitate to repeat it, if it is to make your dream come true. Today, you are all about love but one day you will remorse over letting go of the chance to become a father. You will realise love is just a myth, our life does not stop over a person. You may grieve, then will accept and move on...."
