Lament

We were all in utter shock. A boy had just been killed. Cedric Diggory, a seventh year boy in my house. He was in the middle of the Third task, and then had come back dead. Everyone had been silent, except Harry Potter, (who was insisting that it was He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named) and a wailing Amos Diggory, Cedric's father. Even the Slytherin house was quiet. Tears pricked at my eyes, not out of sorrow (although the feeling was there) but out of fear. Sophie clenched onto my arm, visible tears on her face, and her cheeks paled, but then again I probably didn't look any different. I couldn't look away from the horrid sight of a father weeping over his sons dead body.

"Lindsey..." I looked to Sophie, my breath shaking. "Can we head back to our dorms..." she whispered, still clinging onto my arm. I nodded my head, and pulled her with me toward the castle, my legs shaking. Sophie started sniffling and sobbing. We made it about about halfway to the castle before she collapsed. Sophie clung to me, weeping in fear. "Was that really- is he- what happened?" I tried comforting her, but how was I to do that when I couldn't handle my own emotions?! I started crying on her shoulder. "I'm scared." she hugged me. "Is He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named really back?!"

I shook my head. "No, no he can't-" I sobbed "Harry Potter killed him 14 years ago."

She looked at me worriedly. "Then- who did it?!?" I didn't know. I hugged her.

The whole castle was sorrowful that night, and Cho Chang was weeping all of dinner. Most of Diggory's friends where not present, and those who were looked ghostly. There was no Slytherin mocking Hufflepuffs or Gryffindors. There was no cheering or laughing from the Gryffindor table. Even the ghosts looked deep in thought. Sophie and I held arms eating dinner in silence.

"We're gonna be ok, right?" I said quietly, looking at my food.

"I don't know." She played with her mashed potatoes. "I'm gonna go to bed." she said getting up. I quickly followed her to our dorm. We immediately went to our beds.

After that, days went by till the last day before summer break came. Things were different. The usual fun chatter that arose in the Great Hall came back, but it was awkward, and people avoided speaking of the incident.

"You will come over this summer won't you?? I mean I might be staying with Ginny for a while, but I could probably convince her to let you come." Sophie asked, while helping with my bags.

"Of course I will!" I smiled at her. "This summer will be boring without my 'sister' there with me." I laughed.

"Well, you'll sit with me on the train, right!!?" She asked worriedly.

"Of course!" She looked at me sadly. "What?"

She hugged me. "I love you, your my best friend." I hugged her back.

"I love you too Sophie, I'm so glad your my friend, I probably wouldn't have made it through this year without you."

She looked at me again. "You promise when we're older, and you marry marvel and have his babies, you'll name one after me!" She teased.

I scoffed, "I doubt I will marry Marvel, but yes, when I get older I will name one of my kids after you." I joked with her. "But you gotta name one of yours after me!" I demanded. She shook my hand.

"Deal."

Later:

"Lindsey!" my baby brother Timothy hugged me.

"Hey kid, how is my favorite little brother?!" I hugged him tightly. He looked at me with big eyes.

"Favorite?!?" He smiled happily.

I winked at him "Don't tell Joshie."

"OH MY GOSH Lin is that your baby brother he's the most darling thing!!!" Sophie gushed. I laughed at her.

"So Lindsey, who is this?" My Mum said, smiling.

"Oh uh- this is my best friend, Sophie, you know the one I wrote to you about." I smiled.

She shook Sophie's hand before I heard a shout. I turned to find my sorta-boyfriend Marvel. "Hey Lin, is this your family?" he asked bashfully.

I blushed. "Uh yeah- Mum, Dad, this is my um-boyfriend..ish" I bit the inside of my lip. "Marvel" My dad snapped his head my way, while my mum glared at him. "Right, well we should be going now-.." I chuckled nervously, I hugged Sophie. "see you this summer, love ya!" and I shook Marvel's hand appropriately. "Bye!" I pulled my parents with me.

We got to the car before my dad spoke up. "I thought we agreed 16?" I totally forgot about that. "No dating till 17."

"but I-" I clenched my fist "I totally forgot. I-" I sighed even though I really liked marvel and wanted to tell my mom, and dad off, I always tried sticking to my promises, besides marvel will be around by the time I'm 16 . "I'll message him when we get home." My mum smiled at me.

"Your so good." She grabbed my hand. "Now, tell me about Sophie."
