The car ride home was- to say the least -awkward. The sun shined brightly on my face, in contrast to the dark circles under my eyes. I leaned my head on the window, as my eyes slowly closed.

"Hey uh, Lin. Have you been sleeping well? You seem tired?" my dad said waking me instantly. No, I thought as I smiled.

"I'm fine, I was studying for my owls all last week, so I've been a bit of an insomniac." I joked, partially lying. I studied his face, seeing that he rose his eyebrow in disbelief, but decided to shrug it off.

"How was school this year huh? Make any new friends?" he asked smiling, as we hit a red light.

"Oh yeah," I blinked "I mostly hung out with Sophie all year, but there is this girl named Astoria who seems friendly. Oh and there was this other girl named Maisy, she was a bit annoying, but I guess she's nice" I smiled bitterly as Draco popped into my internal list of 'friends'. I decided not to bring it up.

"That's nice, you should invite them over this summer," he told me.

"Yeah maybe..." it got silent again.

"You know Oma is staying with us for the summer?" this caught my attention. Oma (grandma) was quite possibly my favorite person. She was cheery-eyed and warm.

"all summer?!" I asked happily.

"all summer." He smiled.

the car trip couldn't have taken longer as now I was eager to get home, but soon enough we arrived, as I got my luggage out from the roof of the car I heard a familiar voice. "See der Liebe! My Lindsey! How wonderful it is to see you Sehr geehrter!" My Oma said in a slightly strong German accent.

"Oma Ida!" I called out, hugging her. She had dark, silvered hair, and grey eyes.

"see der Liebe! Why are you even taller than me now! That or I'm shortening!" She laughed "let me take a look at you!" She held my cheeks examining every aspect of my face "mien mien, you look terrible my Lindsey. You need more rest, has that private school been too hard on you? Louis, that school is too hard on this poor girl!" She scolded my dad, making me laugh.

"it's fine Oma! I like my school, I've made friends!" I reassured her.

she smiled at me, "tell me all about it later, now I'm going to greet my little Wahrheit der Liebe Verity. I haven't met her yet, she looks like quite the süß" she laughed referring to my baby sister (A/N so I forgot that at the beginning of the book Lindsey's mum had a baby, so here she is, Verity Boris!)

....

during dinner, my mind went traveling. I found my thoughts- against my will -going to Draco. Why was he staring at me on the express? Did he feel guilty (not likely) maybe he did wanna be my friend (again unlikely)? I played with my food as I normally did. "Lindsey stops playing with your food, essen" she said sticking a for with some green beans in my face.

"I'm fine Oma." I smiled. She looked at me doubtfully.

"come outside with me while I smoke." Oma told me as excused myself from the table. It was a cold night, dark, but the stars shined all the brighter.

"What is wrong Lindsey?" She asked as she lit a cigarette.

" nothing wrong Oma, I'm just tired from the trip home." I lied.

Oma scolded me for this by lightly flicking my forehead "don't lie to me Mädchen"

I sighed, getting a chill "schools have just been a bit stressful, I mean I love it there, but people have been..." I thought about how I should word what I was about to say "... telling stories about a... ghost of an old killer from the '70s. I'm not a very superstitious person, but it's been getting to me..." I explained bending the truth. "And besides that, there has been this guy at school. He can be a real jerk., I thought we were friends but..." I sat down crossing my arms.

"you know your Opa was a superstitious person too" Oma explained, "he always would do silly little things like putting a stack of pillows under the mirrors." I smiled thinking about Opa. He was a quiet man, but he let his actions speak for him, he was kind. "You know how he died?" I shook my head. "He had cancer of lungs. He spent every day being careful, to die to something out of his control. He had a good life no doubt, but he missed so much. That's why you shouldn't worry about this 'ghost killer(¿)' if you dwell you will hurt yourself more than he ever could." She hugged me. "And as for this boy, lead him to me, Oma will Pass auf ihn auf" she made a fist with her hand.

"well I don't need you to hurt him!" I laughed.

"you protect this boy?" She asked smirking "Liebe ist eine Krankheit, die man haben will. Does this boy tease you?"

I thought about it for a second confused. "I guess? He makes fun of my reading habits, but in a playful manner."

"Was sich liebt, das neckt sich" she laughed "that means teasing is a sign for affection"

"oh, no Oma you have it wrong we don't like each other, besides he has stupid beliefs about blood- uh- family purity, anyone who isn't family isn't worth his time." I rolled my eyes leaning against the white railing in front of me."

"Der Liebe ist kein Ding unmöglich means, nothing is impossible for love, this can be romantic or platonic, if you care for this boy in any manner, and he cares for you then I wouldn't worry." She smiled taking a huff of her cigarette. I thought about what she said while looking at the sky. There was a soft chirp that came from nearby crickets. "Well I'm sure you are cold, let's go inside" we both got up stretching.

"thanks Oma"
