"excuse me? Madam Pomfrey?" I called into the infirmary.
"How may I help you Lindsey dear?" madam Pomfrey asked coming from behind a curtain. "I'm a bit busy right now so if you could make it quick?"
"oh yeah, we could talk later!" I shuffled my feet "I was just wondering what it takes to be a healer? if we could set a time later to talk? 'd greatly appreciate it." I smiled to myself.
"oh? you want to be a healer? I suppose we could talk right now, but you'll have to follow me." she sighed.
"of course" I stood around the infirmary as madam Pomfrey talked.
"well to become a professional healer one needs at least five O's or E's in their N.E.W.T's, for Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts. and having a background as an assistant healer never hurts.- would you stir this for me, three right, two left - and you must be quick on your feet! and a good listener- thank you dear," she explained as she took the potion from me.
"are you making some sort of stomach relaxer?" I asked, recognizing it from tutoring last year.
Madam Pomfrey raised an eyebrow "as I recall, I seem to remember a certain conversation complaining about how you couldn't remember potions for the life of you?"
"I've found my way to listen, I may not like studying, but with the right aspiration I'll do just fine." I smiled, "if your willing madam Pomfrey, could I study under you, I promise I won't get in the way, I've been thinking about it, and I'm serious about pursuing this profession," I asked, fingers crossed.
"Hmm, well for now ill allow it, however, there is no room for screwing up. understand Lindsey?" she looked at me harshly.
"yes ma'am" I stood up straight.
"give three ounces of this to Longbottom over there, that should be simple enough." she went off to the other side of the infirmary as I measured the potion.
"uh, your Longbottom?" I asked, ignoring the silly name.
the boy nodded "Neville, Longbottom."
"Here drink this." I handed the bowl filled with three ounces to the boy "what happened?" I asked.
"Crabbe and Goyle-" Neville started before I interrupted him.
"you needn't say more" I laughed "well according to madam Pomfrey you should feel better after drinking this."
the boy drank the potion and made a silly face, most likely from the taste. "what's your name?" he asked after getting used to the taste of the potion.
"Lindsey Boris." I stuck my hand out for Neville to shake.
....
"Merlin Lindsey! All you ever do is study anymore!" Sophie whined laying on her bed.
"yes well at least I've finally found something worthy to do with my time, this is important to me soph." I told her.
"What did you become some study freak-like granger?" Soph laughed. I just stared. "Wait did you, should I take you to the healer? Are you feeling well?"
I rolled my eyes "of course I don't like studying! But this was important not only to me but to... my Oma." I sighed.
"Woah, the entire energy of this room just changed, you alright?" Soph asked, seriously concerned.
I shook my head "I'm fine, I just need to... focus on what's important!" I went back to studying.
....
"ugh my head hurts..." I groaned.
"that's cause you hardly slept all night! You need a break!" Sophie insisted.
I rested my head in my hands... "I can't, I have to study at the infirmary later, then next week it's the Christmas party... then... break? But I'll be studying... arg" I whined trying to keep my eyes open.
" you're overworking yourself... this isn't good for your health! Heh, maybe I should be the healer." Soph laughed.
"it's fine, I'll take some invigoration drought later..." I looked across the great hall and suddenly my senses were heightened when I saw a tufted blonde hair sneaking away. I abruptly stood up. "I'll be back, I forgot my..." I walked away before I could finish. "What are you up to Draco?" I followed him around the halls, sneakily.
"Ms.Boris what are you doing in this part of the castle may I ask..." an erring voice asked.
"Uhm, professor Snape sir. I was... looking for you... actually" I laughed.
"How ironic," he said as if he didn't believe me.
"erm, I'm studying to be a healer sir." I told him.
"and this has to do with me because..." he stared at me with venom.
"well I need to get an E on my N.E.W.T's you see, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get ahead in DADA? Sir? My potions grades are up now, my transfiguration is average, and herbology and charms are no problem for me, but I'm not sure about my DADA. I'm 99% sure I'm behind." I explained this was something I wanted to talk to him about, just not at the current moment...
"I see... I do hope you're not planning to cheat?" He asked.
"never sir..."
he sighed "we will be working on non-verbal magic... if you get up to date with what we have already learned, I'm sure you'll have no problem with the current..." he explained,
"thank you, sir..." I sighed "I'll be off now, must meet Madam Pomfrey!"
