"You think you could manage to cast it?" I asked Hermione. "I know it's probably not the easiest spell, but it would mean the absolute world to me..." I told her. She had a doubtful look on her face but soon sighed.
"I can't promise it'll work, but I can try." She told me, harshly placing a book on her lap. "But don't get your hopes up, this is head Auror-level magic."
"so it'll be a piece of cake for you?" I joked, but when I got no reaction I coughed awkwardly.
"We should probably practice first." She told me. She spun her head around looking for a small object to practice the messaging spell on, so I handed her a pencil. "I'll try to send this to you, stand over there." I went and stood about ten 20 feet away from her. I heard a quiet voice say "Secreto nuntius" and with a woosh and a red spark on Hermione's end, the pencil was in my hand.
"bloody-" I gasped "it worked!" I yelled waving the pencil in my hand. I quickly ran to Hermione in excitement. "You think you could send this to him now?!" I shouted with adrenaline.
she sighed again before speaking. "I could try, but I don't even know where Draco is. For all, I know it could end up in the hands of... Lucius Malfoy!" She worried.
"don't worry! I've written it in 'code' even if it ended up in the old geezer's hands, he wouldn't be able to understand." I said as I looked at her. I silently begged her with my eyes. "I'm begging, please. I'll owe you!"
she stubbornly agreed as I handed her the letter. "Is this all?"
I thought for a moment before pulling a cassette tape out. "It goes with the letter."
she quietly breathed as she set the letter and the tape on an empty log. I stepped back and she cast the spell. And with a woosh and a red pop, it was gone.

(Draco's POV)
I jumped as there was a clatter on the floor. Something had fallen out of my hands, something that wasn't there before. I slowly and quietly picked it up inspecting the odd item. A wave of nostalgia hit me as I saw the thick envelope. Confused I opened the envelope, and a letter fell onto my bed. As soon as I read the first word I recognized the handwriting.
hello, ferret.
My eyes read the words faster than my brain could process it
It has been too long, I've lost count of how many days it's been. I've missed you dearly. I'm writing to let you know I'm alive and well. The last time we talked was before the headmaster was grave. I'm glad it wasn't you in the end. I can't tell you where I'm at but I just needed to talk to you. I have a heap of letters packed away in my bag, letters for you, hopefully, when I see you again we can read them together. I've left you a cassette. It's one you haven't heard yet, and because I have the player you can't listen to it without me. That's my way of promising we will be together again :)
with love
Artemis.
Emotions I wasn't entirely familiar with flooded my head, but most of it was a relief. I quickly pulled the odd-looking box out of the envelope and clutched it in my hand, smiling.

(Lindsey's POV)
"do you think he got it?" I asked Hermione as we walked looking for our next camp spot.
"I really can't say." She said honestly.
"I do hope so. It's been driving me wild not being able to send him any letters, but now I'm feeling even crazier. "I sighed. "By the way, thanks. I can't express how much this means to me so..."
