I was being dramatic the other week with my meltdown. However, it was still weird with Sophie, we hadn't spoken most of the week, so my anxiety was through the roof. For most of this week I had stuck to my studies. I ended up changing my mind about sending that letter to Malfoy last second.
Today I would start helping Malfoy with his muggle studies, and according to him, they were learning about muggle cultures and societies.
"Looks like I win today." I smirked with triumph.
Confused, Malfoy raised an eyebrow. "Win what?" I
I laughed, resting my head on my fist. "Each time we tutor one of us ends up being early, the other late, today I was the early one." I blinked.
"Well, it sounds like I usually win then." He sat down in front of me, before narrowing his eyes at me. "You're being odd today. You're nicer than normal."
"Am I?" I hadn't noticed. "No, that can't be. Why would I be nice to the guy who basically catfished me?" I straightened my posture. "I'm merely being civil like we agreed"
He quirked an eyebrow. "Whatever, let's get to Muggle Studies"
"Oh yes, hmm... Well, I can't say I know a lot about different cultures around the world, but I can help with basic English muggle culture!" I explained.
"Professor Burdage wants us to write an essay about our favorite appreciation of muggle culture, but seeing as it's mid-October, and I think this class is useless I haven't been paying attention." He said, rolling a quill back and forth between his fingers.
I rolled my eyes. "Think of it this way, if you learn more about muggle cultures, you can learn and appreciate wizard cultures." I sighed. "Now I'd say the easiest thing to write about would be how you appreciate how muggles technology has helped them advance in their lives. So much so that they don't use magic as a crutch as wizards do."
"Sounds like you don't like wizards." Malfoy noted.
"And you don't like muggles." I told him off. "Of course I love and appreciate wizards, seeing as I am one, but I'm also a muggle. Well, muggle-born at least. Each of them has things there good at, in fact, it's my love of wizards that boosts my love for muggles." I crossed my arms. "Write that down in was good." He hesitantly wrote a note.
"Now, how should we organize this."
"Well we will start with the intro/thesis and all of that stating your technology stuff, then you could explain three muggle items you like, then the conclusion/summary. It's simple, but it should get you the grade." He looked at me with bored eyes.
"I don't know anything about muggle items." He deadpanned.
"Well sure you do, remember the cassette player!? And I'll help with the other two items" I thought for a moment. "Cars... and..." I pressed my lips together then popped them, something I did whenever I was deep in thought. "Phones!"
"Cassette players, cars, and phones?"
"Yuppers! I've explained the cassette, but cars are muggle modes of transportation, using an engine that rolls wheels which use energy to move, and phones are a muggle way of communication, they use landlines and signals to reach each other as far as I know." I smiled. "And, what do all these things have in common? If you said they don't use magic, you would be correct! Ding ding ding! And now you have a rough draft to your paper." I stood up and gave a sarcastic bow.
Draco almost glared at me. "Here read my notes" I read over the first sentence, irritated. He hadn't written down what I told him, instead the paper said 'Lindsey Doris is an odd ball' with an odd animation of a girl with swirly eyes.
I grinned at him. "You know, I take that as a compliment."
"You really shouldn't." He shrugged.
"I can't believe you haven't written down what I told you, now I'll have to start over!" I pulled my hair. He handed me another note, but this one with all the info I said on it. That calmed my nerves, causing him to chuckle. I glared at him. "Not funny!" I looked at him, earning that giddy feeling I kept experiencing lately. "Now time for potions!" I quickly changed the subject, when all of the sudden my belly growled.
"Maybe you should eat." Draco suggested.
"Actually, I brought food for this occasion!" I said, pulling two apples from my robe pocket, one red, one green, along with two covered cups of pumpkin juice.
"Who in their right mind brings two apples and two cups of juice with them where ever they go?" Draco asked, bewildered.
"Someone who has been hanging out with Sophie Robbingsworth for too long." I laughed, feeling bittersweet. I scooted over the green apple towards him. "Here, I don't like sour things much, Sophie eats anything, but seeing as I haven't seen her this week you can have it." I also gave him one of the cups of pumpkin juice.
He grabbed the apple and looked at the juice. "This doesn't have puking pastilles in it, does it?"
I laughed to myself before clearing my throat. "I may have red hair, but I'm not a Weasley twin!" He squinted his eyes at me before drinking.
later:
"Marvel?" I stared wide-eyed as I entered the common room. My ex quickly stood from the couch. There was no one in the room, as everyone was at dinner.
"Lindsey..." He took a deep breath. "I came here to talk... civilly." I went and sat in a chair next to the couch. I motioned for him to continue. "I- gah- I can't be friends with you Lindsey, I don't even know if I can be friendly, you deeply hurt me, and it seemed as if you didn't care... but I don't want us to have something negative. I'll probably have a grudge like this for a while. But I just needed to tell you I'm trying!"
I stared wide-eyed. "Marvel- I-" I sighed. "I'm sorry Marvel, I wish I didn't hurt you, and even I was surprised by my lack of a reaction. I completely understand and I thank you for trying to be civil." I sat there for a second.
"Did you love me, if at all? I loved you." He asked quietly.
I frowned "Marvel, we dated unofficially for 6 months and half that time was spent during summer break." I tilted my head. "Marvel, no I didn't love you, and I doubt you loved me, not like what your emotions are telling you." I quickly got up, heading up the stairs towards my room to take a nap before astrology class.
