Potions class was different without Snape, it was way less scary. "As seen here in the front, I've brewed some concoctions this morning, has anyone known what these are?" Professor Slughorn asked. I looked at the bowl in front and noticed I did recognize one, from the colorful steam rising off the top. I slowly raised my hand, he pointed to me, "yes Ms...?"
"Boris, Lindsey Boris, um I'm not sure about the other ones but this one looks like it could be Amortentia, the love potion?" I asked, stepping closer to the cauldron. it had quite a nice smell as to be expected.
"Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in existence. It causes a powerful infatuation or obsession from the drinker. It has a distinctive mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam will rise from it in characteristic spirals. Amortentia is considered an incredibly dangerous potion, as one should never underestimate obsessive infatuation' my book told me.
it had the distinct smell of parchment, ink, fresh library books, and... green apples? I let a soft hum out of my lips before I stepped back, flushed.
"very good, ms. Boris. but remember class amortentia won't create actual love, only try to replicate it with immense obsession and infatuation, which is why it has its title as one of the most dangerous potions to this day." he explained. I didn't need to write it down, it was all in my handy dandy book. soon other students- mainly Ravenclaw - joined the conversation.
Slughorn held the tiniest little vial in his hand "now this handy potion is called-" Slughorn asked the class.
"Felix felicis!" I interrupted accidentally "sorry."
"no no your quite right, Felix felicis, otherwise known as liquid luck. It's a hand potion, but incredibly tricky to brew, and terrible if it is made wrong! one sip of this, and one shall find that all their endeavors succeed. till of course, it wheres off. I have a bargain for you, today class. I have made two vials of this, one I gave to mister potter in the Gryffindor/Slytherin class, this one I will be given to whoever can brew, the best drought of the living death potion in this class!" he said holding the vial up for the class to see. "you have till the hour ends"
everyone got to work, the problem was that the draught of living death was exceptionally hard to brew. "let's see, cut up sopophorus bean? simple enough" it wasn't, beans were flying everywhere. as I made multiple attempts to cut the bean, one attempt ended up hitting a certain person in the face. "merlin I'm sorry!" I threw my hand up as if the comfort the person.
"it's fine" the boy looked at me, and I realized it was Wesley.
"merlin Wesley! are you sure?" I asked.
"I said it's fine," he said passive-aggressively.
"ok then..." I continued to try and cut the bean but quickly got tired of it and ended up smashing the back of my blade on it when I lifted it I realized it had crushed the bean. "that works" I shrugged and squirted the juices into the potion. the rest of the potion making went as well for me, then anyone else, but I continued to find outside of the box ways to make the potion. "thirteen beans coming up!" I said grabbing them, "or was it twelve?" I looked at my book, I must have dropped some water on it or something because the whole paragraph was blurred out. "I guess thirteen it is."
Slughorn went around testing each potion, most of them having a different effect. he tested mine. "exceptional potion ms. Boris!" I smiled thanking him.
"pst" Wesley called "hey. how'd you do it?" he asked
"luck." I shrugged.
"don't be modest ms. Boris!" Slughorn said hearing our conversation. "while it isn't perfect it's by far more advanced than any in this classroom! congratulations ms. Boris, the Felix felicis is yours." he cheered, as did the class... reluctantly. I smiled awkwardly at the attention.
....
as everyone left the classroom I was stopped by Slughorn. "ms. Boris! I have this thing I do for students whom I think have a knack for potions, I call it the slug club, we have dinner parties every once in a while, and I think you would be an excellent attendee." he said "our first dinner party its the 14th, would you be interested in attending?" he asked.
I looked around the classroom thinking about it, I got in on a total fluke, but I'm sure attending it couldn't hurt. "sure. ill write it down." I smiled.
