if it weren't for the idea that doing this would get my grades up, I wouldn't have come, but of course, Slughorn thought I had a special 'it' factor among many of the other students. so alas I was here, at the Christmas party.
"ahh, Ms. Boris! glad you could come!"Slughorn said, shaking my hand.
"thank you for inviting me, sir!" I smiled.
"I must say, Ms. Boris, your grade in potions class has skyrocketed! I knew I saw something in you." he laughed.
"I've been working exceptionally hard! glad to see my work is paying off," I said tiredly, denying the urge to yawn.
"yes well I was listening to the other teachers, seems your grades in their classes have gone up as well! keep this up and you could be the top student in your house! I see bright things in your future." he said
"Thank you! it's a wonderful party by the way!" I replied.
"Thank you very much. would you excuse me, I'm afraid I must greet the others, I've been meaning to talk to Harry Potter for a while," he said
"Of course sir!" I smiled as he walked away.
I stood near the drink table for a while, but soon a ruckus disturbed the party.
"Hands off of me!" a familiar voice shouted. I looked over to see Draco being held by a certain filthy filch. "off me you filthy squib!"
"Professor Slughorn sir, I just discovered this boy lurking in an upstairs corridor claims to be invited to your party." filch said.
I looked at Draco, his brows were furrowed and he wore a frown. I slightly felt my cheeks flush. "ok! ok, I was date crashing! happy?!"
professor snape went towards Draco grabbing him by the arm "ill escort him out..." snape said.
Draco glared at snape, and it was clear that something was going on. "certainly..." Draco said, brushing filch off. "...professor." they walked off.
as Slughorn tried to get the party going I snuck out. I listened to their conversation. Draco almost admitted to cursing a girl and snape admitted to being responsible for Draco. "I was chosen for this..." Draco whispered with malice. I furrowed my eyebrows.
I walked away quietly surprisingly bumping into potter. "merlin!" I put my hand on my chest. "sorry you startled me."
"what are you doing here?" he asked.
"needed a break from the party..." I lied "how bout you?"
"was getting stuffed in there." he eyed me, as if I was a snake, about to attack.
"well ill be heading back to my common room." I smiled.
"me as well..."
....
I walked slowly from there, passing classrooms, and bathrooms. but I heard... sniffing? I slowly walked into the bathroom and was faced with blonde hair.
he looked at me in the mirror and quickly pointed his wand at me. I put my hands up. "what do you want? you filthy muggle!"
"I heard crying... the question is why?" I asked, wondering why he was crying.
"Like you care?" he glared at me.
"Is this about that conversation you had with snape earlier?" I quickly asked.
"listening to my conversation, were you? gonna turn me in? I won't let you! I can't!" he cried, his grip on his wand tightening.
I shook my head, he very obviously was putting an artificial barrier between us. we weren't friends, that was very apparent, but I wanted to... help him. I took a step forward, and out of instinct he shot a spell at me "stupify!" I was flung backward, landing on my back.
"merlin!" the air was knocked out of me, I put my hand on my chest, hardly being able to breathe. "I just wanna help you jerk" I cried from the pain In my chest.
"like I would let a muggle-born help me!" he snarled.
I reluctantly put my hand on my wand, in case I had to reflect any spell. I took a couple of deep breaths before getting up. I wasn't entirely sure what to do at first, but I focused on casting expeliarmus. again like when I fixed harry's nose, the spell was cast before I had the chance to say it. draco's wand jumped out of his hand to mine. out of surprise, he tried to catch it, but it was mine for the time being.
I quickly walked towards Draco grabbing his arm, he tried to back away but hit the sink behind him. "what are you up to?!" I squeezed his forearm. he flinched as if he was in pain, but I hadn't squeezed it that hard. "what's wrong?" I pulled up his sleeve.
"STOP-"
I looked at him in utter shock. there was a terrible mark, a skull, being infested by a snake. "what... is that?" he quickly pulled his arm away.
"get out of here!" he shouted at me.
"is that what was hurting you? that... mark? what is it?" I asked.
"it's nothing!" he spat.
"I'm not dumb Draco Malfoy! Do you think I haven't noticed you sneaking away randomly? please just tell me what that is!" I begged.
he frowned, avoiding my eyes. I clenched my fist before tugging his sleeve down, and guiding him into the hall. "what are you doing?!" he asked.
"taking you to the infirmary!" he tried to pull away, but I kept a firm grip on him. "you don't have to tell me what... that... is. but you should still have it looked at."
"they'll see it!" he told me.
"there's no one there right now! madam pomfreys on a supply run, so no one will see... whatever that thing is." I hurried and soon we made it to the infirmary. I wasn't exactly sure how to help the pain, but I did my best. "you can tell me... I know you think I'm just a... mudblood, but talking helps..."
"why do you care?" he asked, sadly.
"because! you're obviously in pain because of it. maybe I can help in some way!?" I scolded.
he kept quiet, and I frowned disappointedly. then I heard footsteps, coming our way. I quickly pulled his sleeve down, so whoever it was couldn't see.
"Lindsey? what are you doing here?" Madam Pomfrey asked. I stood in front of Draco, holding his arm behind my back.
"erm, I saw Draco hurt himself, ma'am. I was just making sure his wound didn't get infected, we were about to leave." I lied to her, smiling.
"hmm..." she narrowed her eyes at me
"it was a minor wound, I dressed it properly ma'am," I told her, trying to make my lie more believable.
"...well remember not to do that without adult supper vision next time." she told me, sighing. "you may be dismissed."
"yes, ma'am." I hurried and pulled Draco away. "you don't have to tell me..." I didn't look at him "just know, I'm willing to listen."
