"C'mon Lin, just try one on!!" Sophie begged. She had already picked out a beautiful white dress, and I had already asked her to go home, but she kept insisting that I try out a dress, claiming that 'you may never get this opportunity again'.
"Fine, but I get to pick." I said, rolling my eyes. I started looking through all the beautiful (and not so beautiful) dresses, till I came to a elegant white one. I tried it on, and it was ravishing. I showed Sophie and her eyes got big.
"Wow, that dress is stunning! That- you can't not get that." she gawked.
"What would I even use it for?!" I shook my head, feeling ridiculous.
"The ball, of course." I gave her a doubting look before she continued. "Hear me out, I heard Harry Potter and Ron Weasley don't have dates. I've already set up Amy with Harry. You could go with Ron!" She gave me a sheepish look. "I'll even pay for the dress!" I couldn't turn her down, not now.
"...Bah fine, but only cause this dress is..." She hugged me. "Who are you going with anyway?"
She looked at me guiltily. "Blaise" she whispered. "I know he's friends with, well. But I couldn't not go with him! Gah! I'm an idiot, I'm sorry Lin, he's just so dreamy." she apologized, sitting down next to me.
I laughed. "It's fine Soph, really! I mean according to Amy, you have had a crush on him since second year. My beef with Malfoy is nothing compared to that." She hugged me. Then she folded her hands in prayer.
"Thank you for giving me such a great best friend." She prayed. "Now c'mon! I'll pay now."
Later:
I was starving from skipping lunch to go dress hunting, so I was scarfing down a turkey leg when Soph grabbed me. "Let me introduce you to your date! C'mon."
I laughed, "Let me clean up first." I wiped down my face and hands, then followed Sophie to the Gryffindor table.
"Harry, Ron!" She called. "This is Lindsey Boris, Ron's dated to the ball!" She smiled, then saw Amy. "AMY!" She hollered. "Come here! Boys, this is Amy Clearwood, Harry's date!" The boys awkwardly waved, and so did I.
"Hi Ron" I said, sticking my hand out for him to shake. He shook it, then gave a half smile. He had chicken plastered in between his teeth. I looked over to Amy and she shrugged, giving me a guilty smile.
"He was the only guy I knew available, besides he's my friends brother, I had to." she whispered In my ear, "Now c'mon, I'll introduce you to Ginny." She pulled me towards the other end of the table. "Gin, this is my friend, Lin, she's taking your brother to the dance!" Ginny smiled and shook my hand.
"It's a pleasure!" She smiled, I gave her a curt nod. "So, uh- I saw what went down at hogsmeade. A-and not that's it's any of my business, but uh- what went down?!" I blushed, I had forgotten that other people where there when it happened. "You don't have to tell me of course, I was just a bit curious that's all."
"Ummm, it was nothing really. I just found out he had been lying to me about something." She could sense my uneasiness and thankfully changed the topic.
"So your taking my brother, huh? Goodluck." I quirked an eyebrow.
"Thanks I guess." Was Ron really that bad? "Although we're really only going as acquaintances."
Later, right before the dance;
"I look like I'm wearing a wedding dress." I complain "I just shouldn't go!" I leaned my forehead against the wall.
"Your ridiculous!! The dress is beautiful and your beautiful. Besides it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. Do you like the dress?" Sophie asked. I looked at myself then nodded, I did look beautiful.
