I didn't have to regret cutting my hair, because Sophie regretted it for me. Half of our girls night was spent fixing it.
"Your lucky I'm your best friend, any one else wouldn't have been able to help you" she bragged, snipping another piece of my hair.
"Yeah sorry, again, I just needed something new" she laughed.
"Well you did just go threw your first break up." I whipped my head back, where my cheeks where met with the scissors. "Are you ok!?" She panicked.
"Oh Helga, that hurt! I'm fine" I said wiping some blood off my cheek. "Anyways, I did NOT just go threw my first break up, I hate Malfoy and I never liked Ferret like that"
"Oh potato, potato. Now what do you think?" She said as she handed me a mirror. I smiled liking the new look.
"I really like it" I said as I got up and headed for the letters in my drawer, and sat them by the fireplace.
"So your gonna burn them." she asked in a harsh tone. "I can't make choices for you but, they are part of your history."
"Right. The part of my history where my only friend was my self, and then my bully who is a complete git." I'd rather forget that, and Sophie knew that. "Besides, I'm being a new person Soph, these letters restrict me from doing so." she shrugged.
"I'm gonna go get Amy, can I fill her in on your situation?" I thought for a moment before shaking my head, she left for the common room.
The letters blazed in the fire, and with each one that burned a memory played in my head. I not only burned the ones I had written to Ferret, but the ones I had been writing since second year. I kept burning them, one by one, until I came to the first response I had gotten from Ferret. I wanted to throw it in, but I lingered for a while, maybe I'll read it once more. I was about to lift the seal to the letter when Amy burst in, I hid the letter in my robe pocket.
"Soooo girls night!?" She asked as I nodded.
The Next Day:
I decided to eat in the library to avoid Malfoy as much as possible. I was indifferent to him, just another mudblood. Maybe it didn't register to him that I was Artemis yet. Not that I cared. As I took out some oatmeal I snuck from the kitchen, Sophie came bursting in.
"Where were you?" She said loudly, I had to hush her.
"Here, obviously" I said taking a bite. I smiled.
"And this wouldn't have to do with a certain Malfoy would it?" She smiled with eyes of pity. She took my silence as a yes. "Weren't you the one who said you were gonna be more confident?"
I folded my arms and layed my head down in them. "I know... it'll be just awful though, he will going on bullying me like it's normal, but it's not normal, not to me, he was my friend" She nudged my shoulder.
"Perhaps we should talk about something besides Malfoy?" I rested my head on her shoulder and nodded my head. "Ok, how about the dance, are you going with anyone?"
I looked at her raising a eye brow "Dance?"
"I'll take that as a no. You haven't heard of the dance?" I shook my head.
"Well I haven't exactly been keeping up with this whole 'Goblet of Fire' thing" I laughed quietly.
"I doubt you'll get a date now, everyone's been asked" she complained "And I was looking forward to dress shopping with you!"
"Well, I can still go with you, I just won't be getting a dress"
"Fine" she smiled
