Chapter 45

Ceila's POV

Parisa decided to sleep early due to the tiring day. Kaya nauna na siyang bumalik sa kwarto niya para matulog.

Bumaba naman ako para uminom ng tubig nang mapansin ang isang matangkad na bulto sa labas ng glass door papuntang backyard.

Lei.

I walked up to him. Mukhang napansin niya ang presensya ko dahilan para lumingon siya.

He didn't say anything but his eyes were fixed on me.

I managed to walk my way beside him. As the cold midnight breeze touches my skin, we're just standing there in silence.

Iniisip ko kung ano ang iniisip niya sa sandaling ito. Napatingin ako sa kanya at nakita ko siyang malalim ang iniisip.

His eyes were.... blank.

After a long silence, he finally spoke. "Hey, it's getting cold."

Kinuha niya ang coat na nakapatong sa upuan sa tabi niya bago ipinatong sa balikat ko.

"Thank you," maikling saad ko.

Katahimikan ang bumalot sa amin. I can smell the liquor Lei is drinking. Mukhang napaparami na ata siya.

"The case is already closed. Do you have any plans going back in Las Vegas." he asked, not looking.

Actually, I haven't think about it. I'm still deciding if I should go to Las Vegas or I extend my stay here.

"Oo... maybe after weeks." sagot ko pabalik.

After I settle with this unexplainable feeling in my heart lately.

"Ceila," tawag niya at bumaling sa'kin. Seryoso ang tono nito, tila hindi maipinta ang itsura. It was like, he is hesitant but he sigh.

"Hmmm,"

"Mahal kita."

"I love you in a way that's beyond comprehension, more than any amount I could ever describe."

His lips slowly formed an amused smile before chuckling after seeing my shocked reaction.

My lips parted, I was speechless.

He didn't say anything after that confession. I still couldn't process what to say when he spoke.

"Ceila.... can you be my girlfriend?" he said, eyes fixed on mine.

Namilog ang mata ko sa sinabi niya.

"I'm sorry if it's too sudden," nag iwas siya ng tingin bago mabigat na napabuntong hininga.

"I... I just don't want to lose you again.
Minsan na kitang iniwan at hindi ko na kayang iwan ka ulit. S-sabi ko... gusto kitang makitang masaya pero paano ako magiging masaya kung hindi ako ang dahilan ng bawat ngiti mo?" he said in a strained voice before he turned to me.

This time, tears forming at the corners of his eyes, desperately pleading.

My heart twisted painfully at the sight of him.

"I - I'm s-sorry, Lei..."iyon ang tanging nasabi ko. I was out of words, the pain he is feeling is just so... painful.

Guilty.

Ito ang nararamdaman ko. Knowing that he is suffering because of me.

It's cruel and selfish. I am contented with my life but I didn't think that Lei was suffering from the pain I caused.

"P-pwede bang dito ka nalang sa'kin?" nabasag ang boses niya at sinundan ng hikbi.

"Alam ko na masyadong makasarili....pero pwede bang ako naman kaysa sa pangarap mo?" unti unting nagbagsakan ang mga butil ng luha sa pisnge niya.
