I had somehow convinced Ashton to stop at a coffee shop before going to his mothers. I just really needed to have alone time before meeting his family.
"Now we don't match." Ashton points out, sipping his latte.
"What do you mean?" I ask, my hand playing with the straw of my drink.
"Well I'm over here looking like a fucking badass," Ashton says raising a brow from behind his sunglasses. "And your looking like the most innocent girl ever. People must think your rebelling against your parents or something." Ashton says laughing at his words.
I playfully roll my eyes at him, a chuckle escaping my lips.
"Oh speaking of you looking beautiful as ever," Ashton says reaching into his pocket.
I furrow my eyebrows, watching as he begins typing on his phone.
"What are you-?"
A camera shutter instantly stops me from talking. My cheeks begin to heat up as I cover my face with my hands.
"Ashton!" I whine.
"Babe, I had too! Look, you look so good." Ashton says putting his phone in front of my face.
I stare at the picture of me, no smile on my face because I was wondering what Ashton was doing.
"That's horrible." I grumble, pushing away his phone. Ashton chuckles, shaking his head at me.
"I like it. It might just be my new background." He mumbles and I chuckle rolling my eyes at him.
"And thank you for that." Ashton says and I furrow my eyebrows once again in confusion.
"You smiled momentarily before rolling your eyes - which I got, so thank you again beautiful." Ashton says winking at me as he finally puts his phone down and I am in fact his background.
"Whatever," I say playfully giving Ashton attitude.
-
This was it. This was what everything built up to. I don't know how I would make it through the day.
"Babe, loosen the grip yeah?" Ashton whispers, motioning towards our joined hands.
"Sorry," I mumble, watching as Ashton rings the doorbell.
"Don't worry, everything will go fine. Promise." Ashton says pecking my lips a couple times.
The door then gets thrown open, showing a older lady with features just like Ashton.
"Ash!" She says loudly, bringing her arms around her son. My heart is still beating rapidly and I don't know what she'll think of me.
"And this must be the Kat! Why you look young - how old are you?" Ashton's mother gushes, bringing me into her chest before I can even speak.
"Uh 22..." I mumble nervously as I detach from the lady.
"You don't look a day over 15," she says lightly tapping my shoulder. "My names Beatrice by the way, pleased to finally meet the girl that stole Ashton's heart. Come in!" Beatrice says motioning for Ashton and I to walk in.
Ashton's hand finds the small of my back, guiding me into his childhood home.
"Easy peasy," He whispers into my ear, I turn around to give him an uneasy smile. I was still nervous as fuck.
-
Dinner went smoothly. Well for the most part. I had spilt my drink on the table because I was reaching across the table to grab seconds. I was humiliated. Although everyone laughed it off - I personally felt like they were laughing at me.
I tried to brush it off but Ashton kept prodding me about it. I really wanted to smack him upside the head, but I refrained, only because his family was around us. And because I couldn't possibly do anything to hurt him - even if it was playfully. Damn love.
So now, I was sitting in the living room talking to his younger brother Max and younger sister Lexie. I'm sure they had a grown a liking to me.
"So you guys kiss and stuff? Like with tongue?" Max asks whispering. He was only 6 but I still found myself stuttering around him. I was a nervous wreck.
I let out a breathy chuckle before shrugging. "Um... Well we sort of-"
"Max stop asking questions, geez." Lexie, the 8 year old says rolling her eyes at her younger brother.
"I have a girlfriend." He says proudly, grinning at me with a crooked smile.
"Oh yeah?" I ask, a giggle leaving my lips. This kid was a spitting image of Ashton, no doubt he'd get tons of girls.
"Mhm. Her name is Sophie and we are planning to get married." He says matter if factly, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Is that so?" Lexie buts in, her chin held high. She had Ashton's intelligence and confidence that's for sure.
"Yup! And have babies!" Max says and I can't help but laugh, my hand covering my mouth.
"Aren't you a little too young?" I ask laughing.
"Nope. Ashy told me that your never too young for love." Max says smiling at me.
I chuckle and nod. "Yeah but see Ashy, is an adult - your a child."
"Love is love!" Max shouts ignoring me. I just laugh at the kid sitting across from me, he was a real right laugh.
"Boys." Lexie says shaking her head as we watch Max begin to play with his toys.
I only laugh again, my head turning to the kitchen where Ashton was. He was taking pretty long with his mother - I'm sure she was pestering him about his long ass hair.
"I'll be back." I speak, patting Lexie's leg as I stand up and make my way to the kitchen.
"So what do you think of her?" Ashton's voice asks from the kitchen, I quickly stop my walking and listen. I know it's not good to eavesdrop but the topic of discussion was me.
"I thought you told me that she always wore black and wasn't very happy." His mother asks and I frown. That's how he described me?
"Well yeah but that was before she talked to her mother and got things straightened out. She's way better than she use to be." Ashton gushes and I can't help but blush.
"Oh yeah - what's with the mother situation? You never told me exactly."
"Well basically her father took her to his girlfriend and never spoke to her real mother and then now she finally had the balls to find her daughter again." Ashton says. I'm trying not to be a little annoyed with the way he's wording everything but I decide that he's not going into detail with his mother.
"Well it's great that your helping someone through stuff." His mother says.
"Yeah - it was a handful if I'm being honest. She was so closed off, it sort of pissed me off like before but I couldn't tell her that because I didn't know how she would react." Well this is knew to me. Now I am annoyed that he never told me how he really felt.
"Well at least she's better now. Oh and does she still talk to the Kyle boy you mentioned or her friend Bell - Brittany, what was her name?" He told his mother about Kyle and Bethany? What the actual fuck.
"Nah, she hasn't contacted him and he hasn't tried either. Honestly though, I'm sure he didn't even care for her at all. If he really was her friend he would have tried. Same goes for Bethany. Kat doesn't have that good of judgment. Once she saw me with a girl and thought I was cheating almost instantaneously." Ashton says and I don't even realize angry tears are falling from my eyes till I feel some on my chest.
Fuck Ashton. Fuck his family. Fuck everything.
I turn around, grabbing my phone from the couch and walk to the door. I don't bother to respond to Lexie or Max as I open the front door and slam it behind me.
