Ashton's POV

I knew she was tired, the way her back was hunched, her head lent against the car window, the flight was torturously long thus draining both of our energy but I had things planned so I had to keep her up and alive.

"Babe, I'm going inside - you want anything?" I ask opening my door, I had stopped at a gas station to fill up and buy an energy drink or two.

"Candy. Doesn't matter what type." Kat says and I nod, closing my door and making my way inside the dirty little gas station store.

A bell rings above me as I step foot in the little store, the cashier giving me a once over before going back to whatever he was doing.

I'm quick to make my way to the fridges, grabbing an iced coffee and a random energy drink - I didn't know what she'd be in the mood for right now.

With the beverages in my hand, I walk to the candy isle - my eyes skimming shelf after shelf for something high in sugar. I smiled to myself when I noticed Sour Patch Kids, those were pretty sugary right?

I decide on getting them and making my way over to the cash register. The guy gives me a small smile before ringing the items. "Can I get $20 on 6." I say referring to gas, he nods, typing on his machine as I pass my card over. My eyes wander a little, waiting for my receipt.

There's a bell chime signaling someone had just came in the store, so naturally, my head turns to the sound. Katherine. Her eyes widen at the sight of me, a large grin on her face as she begins to walk towards me.

The cashier passes me my bag and receipt just as she reaches me, her eyes wandering to my bag.

"Hey Ashton, surprised seeing you here so randomly." She chuckles and I nod, my eyes going to my car outside, I couldn't see if Kat was seeing this but I hope she didn't. I didn't need her to worry about Katherine.

"Yeah." I mutter, slowly walking to the door, Katherine right by me. Jesus this woman.

"Well I have to go..."

"Where you off to?"she asks quickly, her eyes filled with curiosity.

"Birthday surprise for the girlfriend... She's waiting for me actually so I'm going now....." I say throwing my thumb backwards over my shoulder. Katherine nods, her lips holding a tight grin. "We need to have another doggy date!" She shouts once I'm halfway out the door.

I nod my head although I wasn't planning on it. And it's not like I didn't like the woman I just didn't want Kat to constantly worry. Plus - Katherine was a bit.... Pushy. She was very loud and friendly for someone she barely knows. I guess I can't say much considering I was like that with Kat.

Once the gas pump is in the gas tank of my car, I open my car door, to reveal a sleeping Kat.

"Babe, get up." I chuckle, using the cold can of energy drink to wake her up, touching it lightly on her arm. She jumps at the contact, her eyes wide in surprise.

"I'm so tired." She yawns, taking the energy drink without question - thankfully. I give her a shrug, tossing the candy in her lap. "Eat up, it's only 7 pm."

Kat shrugs back at me, ripping the bag open. "I just want to sleep in my bed or yours, I honestly don't care." She chuckles, tossing candy into her mouth.

I smirk at her, my arm leaning on the car. "Well that'll have to wait till later."

Kat furrows her eyebrows at me in confusion. "We are like 15 minutes away from your place." She chuckles.

"Yeah," I elongate, my teeth biting my bottom lip. "Well I have a surprise for you."

Kat instantly groans, her head hitting her headrest. "I hate surprises. Plus it's not even my birthday anymore."

"So, it hasn't even been a while 24 hours plus it'll be fun." I say quickly walking to the gas pump and putting it away, then climbing into the car next to Kat.

"Ugh, fine." Kat says and I'm guessing she's still a bit too tired to argue with me over it or she knows I'll win. Like always.

"Was the blindfold really necessary?" Kat asks, her arms wrapped around my bicep. I chuckle nodding as I maneuver her through the go kart place, walking to the reserved party room filled with some of our friends. Kat was either going to love me for this or hate me. She hated surprises.

"It isn't now." I say standing in front of everyone and by everyone I mean - Calum, Luke, Michael, Frankie, Lewis, Jessie, Logan - even James from her gym. Of course the guys had their plus ones but I didn't know their names, I didn't even think they were seeing people - they won't last long, none of my friends are relationship material.

"Well than why am I sill wearing it." Kat grumbles, pulling the bandana off her face only to have her eyes widen in surprise, her mouth slightly ajar.

"Happy birthday!" They shout, Jessie runs up and attacks Kat in a bear hug, almost knocking Kat down.

"Woah - uh thanks guys..." Kat mutters still in shock, her eyes roaming around the whole room.

"Don't thank us, thank your boytoy."Lewis says winking in my direction, I laugh, my face looking between Lewis and Kat. Kat chuckles, rolling her eyes playfully at me.

She attaches her arm around my waist loosely, her cheeks red. "Thanks." She mumbles and I chuckle again knowing she didn't care for PDA. I lean down, pecking her lips, she's quick to pull away, her ace red as she faces the people in front of us.

"Let the party begin yeah?" I say and every cheers.

The night is started after that, we did rounds on the go kart track, did some drinking, some dancing, lots of socializing and a whole lot of happiness was filled throughout the room.

Some just natural joy, others happy for Kat, but most importantly Kat was happy. It's her happiness that had me memorized the whole night. Her laughter, her enormous smile that was never wiped off her face even after she was drunk.

I think this was her best birthday.
