I worked today, co-owning a music store, believe it or not. I mean, how else would I be able to wear all this American Apparel? That wasn't cheap. But anyways, I co-owned the store with a brunette, named Jessie. I met her my freshmen year of college, before I dropped out. 3 years later, she contacted me about opening up this store, her love for business and my love for music, it only fit.
"How's the market looking?" I ask as I stack the new CD's that just came in. "Average, so we're steady." She says and I nod.
It was mostly me and her at the store, or Lewis, who was a worker here as well. When Jessie wasn't in, I was usually Lewis an I. He's Jessie's cousin so he was an easy hire.
"I'll be in the back today, it's a bit slow. You got up here?" She asks me as I gut open the next box of albums. "Course." She nods and leaves me alone in the from of the store. I go to one of the record players, putting on the Arctic Monkeys album, one of my favorites.
It begins to play loudly in the store and I smile contently walking back to the box and going through the albums.
By the time I was done stocking the store, ringing in the few costumes that had came in and threw away the boxes that were garbage, it was almost closing time.
"Kat, I can close tonight." Jessie says s she situated herself behind the counter. "Alright, I'll see you Tuesday." I say grabbing my black messenger bag and wave to her as I open the door, stepping out.
The sun was setting and it was breezy, it definitely was a nice evening... To spend with someone. I sucked in a breath as I began my descend home, taking my time as usual. I had no rush anyways. No one to go home too, besides my best friend who was rarely home.
I wandered aimlessly down the streets, my stomach grumbling in the process. I look at my food options and quickly settled on a pub. I put my sunglasses on although they were needed as I walked in, light music and chatter floating about
"Party for.. One?" The girl asks me and I nod, my hands perspiring. "Would you like to sit inside or on the patio?" I thought for a second then responded. "Patio." She urges for me to follow her and I do, she sits me at a two seater on the end side of the patio.
"Can I start you off with a drink?" I place my bag down, my eyes quickly scanning over the drink menu.
"Blue Moon." She nods and leaves and I sigh contently, looking around the patio I notice a few people.
A couple chatting amongst themselves. A daughter and mother, and a group of four boys.
I look at my menu, my eyes scanning the food options. I wasn't that hungry. I just wanted a drink. The waitress comes back a few minutes later, beer in hand.
"Are you ready to order?" I give her a small nod and close my menu.
"I'll just have the boneless buffalo chicken wings. Ranch on the side. Thank you." She quickly writes it down and leaves me be once again.
I take a sip of my beer, my eyes closing for no particular reason. I grab my phone from my pocket, unlocking it and going straight to tumblr.
"Kat?" A male voice asks and I look up from my phone to see the kid from American Apparel, what was his name?
"Um," I sit up a bit straighter, touching the bridge of my Ray-Bans making sure they were shielding me.
"It's Ashton, remember from the store?" He explains taking a seat across from me and I nod slowly. "Hi."
"Hello, didn't think I'd be running into you." He says smiling at me and I nod. "Yeah." He seems disappointed with my response and looks at my table.
" A beer and an empty table, let me guess, hard day." He chuckles and I instantly feel angered. "That's rude."
"It was a joke." He says his face full of confusion. "It wasn't funny." I respond. "Well, sorry. I should go.. Back to my friends. Nice seeing you." He says pointing over his shoulder and I nod.
He gets up and walks back to his table, I look to my phone again. My beer in my hand, taking a sip I continue scrolling through my feed.
Who did he think he was?
