TW: Cancer|Death
A/n: Repost from an old imagines book no longer available. Made myself tear up rereading this for the first time since I wrote it so I decided to publish it here for those who love the angst.
4.2k words so buckle in.

Y/n sensed that something was off. She felt weird for the last few weeks. She was constantly fatigued and often in a lot of pain.
She finally decided to go to the doctors as these sudden symptoms were very concerning.
Y/n was pretty healthy and fit most of her life, but recently found it difficult to do the most simplest of tasks some days.
She tried to hide her symptoms from Hailee. She didn't want to concern her, at least not until she knew for sure what, if anything, was wrong with her.
Hailee noticed that Y/n was different. She just couldn't quite place why. She figured that Y/n was just tired but quickly became suspicious after a few weeks of the same thing.
Y/n brushed her off, saying that she is fine, but that she would go to the doctor to give her peace of mind.
That's how she ended up here, at the hospital. After numerous tests, Y/n was fed up with the process. What could possibly need that many tests. She had been here for hours and wanted to go home.
The doctors seemed to be somewhat concerned as some tests came back inconclusive. They told her to come back the next day for further testing, causing Y/n to groan.
She left the hospital just as clueless as when she came in. Around noon the next day, she made her way back to the hospital.
After many more tests, a doctor finally came to talk to her. "So?" Y/n asked exhausted from all of this. The doctor brought her into her office to have a quiet place to talk.
The doctor took a deep breath, trying to gather herself. She always hated this part of the job. She looked at Y/n before finally starting to speak.
"Y/n, I know you've been dealing with a lot of pain and fatigue recently, and I wish I had different news for you today. We've received the results of your tests and... I'm afraid we're looking at stage 4 cancer." the doctor said as gently as she could.
Silence enveloped the room as Y/n tried to process the news. "Are you sure? Stage 4?" Y/n asked in disbelief. How was it only now that she felt any symptoms.
"What does this even mean?" Y/n added quickly before the doctor even had time to say anything.
She leaned forward slightly, trying to keep her voice calm as she spoke. "At this stage, the cancer is more advanced, which makes treatment more complex. We'll focus on controlling the symptoms to manage your pain and to give you the best quality of life possible."
Y/n drops her gaze, her eyes landing on her engagement ring. How was she supposed to break the news to Hailee. They were supposed to get married. Y/n was 25 and way too young for this.
Y/n cleared her throat as tears began to brim in her eyes. She bit the inside of her cheek, looking back up at her doctor, "so what should I expect, timeline wise. Are we talking years, months...weeks?" Y/n asked in a whisper.
"It's difficult to predict as it varies person to person. We'll do everything we can to make you comfortable, but I'm going to be honest here, with the cancer so advanced it's not looking good. We're looking at maybe a year here." The doctor explained.
"There are options, treatments to help slow things down and manage the symptoms." the doctor added, though she knew that wasn't much consolation.
"So this is it?" Y/n asked with a shaky breath, already knowing the answer.
