LAST CHRISTMAS
Sirius' POV
———
Remus and Peter had dragged their stuff into James and I's room. Frank had decided he wanted to get ready with his roommate, separately despite the invite to join us.

Hung up suits were on each side of the two beds and shiny dance shoes were scattered across the floor. Some more dangerously than others.

"Pete, pick up your fucking shoes." I said as I almost tripped over them, kicking them to one side. He completely ignored my words, his face beaming up to me anyway.

"I've made peace with it." He said.

Remus and I exchanged glances. Peace with what?

"With the fact I don't have a date." Pete further explained.

"Well, we still don't know if James has one either yet, so. You'll definitely not be the only one, even if he does." Remus shrugged.

None of us believed James was going to secure that date with Lily. It was the day of the dance and he still hasn't had an answer, a rejection or an acceptation. She would shut down any attempt of dance talk at the table. Granted she had a lot on her plate. Running study groups and stressing about the final year of O.W.Ls

Regardless, James had been left hanging and boy, was he hanging on.

As if we summoned him, James came bustling into the room. With so much speed (and with the unfortunate fact I kicked Peter's shoes over to the door to add further difficulty) he slid sideways as if the wooden flooring had been polished so well it was as if he were on an ice rink. James glided onto the floor, surprisingly with minimal sound and lack of apparent pain, as he pushed himself up off the ground as quickly as he rushed in.

It all seemed to happen in a split second, his grand entrance.

"She said yes."

Peter practically jumped up with joy. Remus and I, looked as if we were two steps behind. Surely, I must have misheard.

"Yes. She said yes." James' face was bright red as he puffed out frantically excited air. His eyes were bright, large and childlike. As if the biggest present was there waiting for him underneath a Christmas tree.

"You're joking?" Remus said though a smile was beginning to grow large on his face, adopting Peter's quickly formed energy.

I found myself frozen in my spot, in exactly the same way Fleamont often watched James' quidditch games. An overwhelming sense of pride and joy grounding me to my spot.

"And it's our last Christmas at Hogwarts." I found myself saying, it finally settling what that meant and how stupid it was if we actually decided to miss this moment.

The boys came huddling over, us all taking a moment to drink the moment in. Arms round each other and a sense of silence that grew from gratitude existing around the room.
