BLOOD SOAKED Grace's POV, ———
"Look darling," James said with a shrug. "Us boys gotta look out for our girls."
I sighed, awkwardly shifting my eyes down to my shuffling feet as James and Lily walked me to my next lesson.
"I get that but...I don't know, I wouldn't have said anything if knew what he'd get up and do. It's just a name..."I mumbled.
"Nah," James dramatically shook his head and pursed his lips. "Anyways, this was just the final nail in the coffin typa thing." He said as if it were nothing.
Lily subtly nodded, which took me by surprise, as she had been pretty quiet and non-opinionated as I had been worrying.
"This is what they do." Lily said softly, regretfully. "They ignore each other until something happens, someone snaps and they fight. Usually it's just verbally, I wouldn't worry too much." She added but winced.
I paused.
"What was that?" I said.
"What?"
"That look."
James placed his hands on my shoulders and forced me to keep moving.
"That look meant 'we don't like that name around here Grace, Regulus gave Sirius the perfect permission for a punch.'" James said putting on a little voice.
I felt an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach, guilt possibly.
I knew they all had a point. No one could just go around calling people slurs and get away with it, there has to be a moment where they're confronted but part of me wishes I wasn't the cause of Regulus' consequences.
As much as I'm trying out this whole 'light the fire' thing...I don't want to be destructive...this new group, Sirius and his friends - I was starting to wonder, were they?
My stomach gurgled with anxiety.
Regulus would know I said something and I didn't want to be held accountable for that, even though I'm not in the wrong.
Then there's the girls, my friends, who all in their own ways favour Regulus. If they found out I had something to do with him being hit, I mean it's just so out of character for me, we're already on rocky and unstable waters. It could be the final slip up that makes my long lasting friendships sink to the bottom of the ocean, forever forgotten.
"They fight all the time," Lily picked up on my unease. "This isn't just about you. It's just their relationship." She tried to reassure.
We reached the corridor that was around the corner from the greenhouses. Herbology being my next lesson.
"Just try to forget about it." James almost rolled his eyes.
I huffed quietly, almost scowling, getting a little annoyed at how blasé everyone behaved towards aggression.
