TOGETHER THROUGH CHANGE,
Grace's POV.
———

Sirius led us to a random room somewhere near the Slytherin dungeons. The stone walls were painted white and it seemed to be a storage room for odd bits and bobs for the common rooms. Mattress', pillows, duvets without covers on.

He told me to remove my uniform, in almost a motherly way. Kind but demanding, no air of messing about in order to care for me and get the soggy clothes off of my body.

I complied and surprisingly he turned around as I did. Surprising because I had already stripped down to my underwear to swim with him before. This time felt different though, less fun.

There was a heaviness in the air. Something similar to disappointment, from both of us, I just didn't know what his was about. A flat and dull heaviness could be felt in our silence, which only got progressively worse on our journey here.

"Sirius...?" I said quietly, holding the wet clothes in my hands, only wearing my underwear and his jumper. Though I was getting his attention to grab the clothes from me, I also had a question in mind.

Sirius turned around, keeping his nonchalantly blank eyes on the fabric in my hands or the shoes on his feet. He scooped up my clothes and placed them down on the floor a few feet in front of him.

"I've never been good at this spell..." he mumbled to himself about drying my clothes.
"Last time my socks set alight, hence..." he gestured to the clothes on the floor and not my body.
"You should have let your friend do this for you." He added about Dorcas.

I stayed silent for a second, it felt as if he was talking just to fill the silence, even though I understood what he was saying had relevance.

"I don't think I have many friends at the moment." I said trying to hide how confusing it felt for me.

I mean, Ramona with Valeria and Octavia?

Vinny and Orla, barely being able to look at me?

Dorcas...I don't know. Nice as ever earlier, but still so distant.

I didn't know where I stood, or where I even wanted to stand with them all. I couldn't even explain what had happened, other than the fact it would have been nice to have heard from them over Christmas break - it felt like something had shifted more than that, and so suddenly and I felt too uncomfortable to confront it. Or careless. I don't know.

"You and me, both." Sirius said in a low tone, almost unempathetic, testing out the dryness of my clothes and going in for another round of the spell.
