RED, ORANGE, GREEN, ——— James locked arms with me on the opposite side of Sirius, despite his warning not to touch me. Though I didn't mind, in all fairness it felt humorous and in another way he reminded me of Ellie (pre stroppy hormones that are starting to kick in for her).
The three of us approached their table, that was sheltered from the very fine and light rain, which barely felt like anything upon my skin after swimming - especially because that wasn't what I was focused on.
My heart rate started to increase a little seeing Marlene McKinnon, still holding (lit this time) three cigarettes in her mouth and puffing out an impressive cloud of grey out of her nostrils. Like a dragon, scowling in my direction suddenly.
"You've got to be kidding me." I heard her say dryly.
"Be nice." Alice finally managed to pull at least one cigarette out of her mouth and attempt to stomp it out on the ground, before Remus pinched it from her grasp. "Remus!"
"Thanks, Al." He smirked before mimicking Marlene, except avoiding eye contact with me and heading back over to Lily. Who contrasted the coldness by a big grin over in my direction, paired with a small wave.
Marlene had a threatening energy about her and still, even now, we haven't had one proper conversation. She had always stormed off whenever I had approached the group. The ex girlfriend.
If I was being honest...it felt as if I was the mistress around her and she the old wife that had turned mean in a long marriage.
It didn't sit comfortably with me.
Nor did it look too comfortable for her when I showed up, either.
"Congrats, guys." A muddy Frank had pulled himself off of the floor as soon as James sprinted away, still attempting to wipe down his school trousers before Alice flicked her wand in his direction more efficiently.
They were actually the married couple of the group.
Boyfriend and Girlfriend since second year, if I remembered correctly? Mum and Dad of the group, I could assume.
So why did it feel as if I was breaking up a family by sitting down at the benches where they ate their lunch - though I couldn't see much eating going on, rather than smoking.
"Don't mind her." Sirius said loudly for everyone to hear and nodding over at Marlene, noticing how she was still assessing me with judgement and malice. "She wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, more often than the right."
Lily giggled, which Marlene didn't look too enthused by and I could guess that they were roommates and maybe technically there was some truth to the direction she got out of bed.
"A Slytherin at the table isn't exactly something to celebrate, Black." She said boldly, her facial expression maintaining a mean girl position.
