THE TREES HAVE A VOICE,
Just listen,
Regulus POV,
———

"Regulus," a soft voice chimed gently from around the trees.

I knew the voice so well, not one part of me flinched or turned to face the sound.

Pandora.

I wanted to sigh. Mumble something about being left alone, but my lips were sealed shut comfortably in heaviness.

My hands sat numb in my lap, pink from having searched around the black lake for herbology ingredients. Instead, my fingers now locked onto and played with a small silver horseshoe charm, that I swore I recognised from somewhere. It glistened among the stones in the lake, so close to the edge that it had obviously fallen from a passerby into the water and hadn't drifted far. Like a magpie, my eyes fixated on the silver glimmer in the water a lot easier than the gillyweed I was attempting to find washed up.

"You really shouldn't wander so far out here." She said sweetly, almost motherly.

I was sat upon a tree branch in the forbidden forest, kind of. It was so close to the forest edge, that I really didn't consider it the forest itself. A wooded area, sure. Dangerous? Countable steps away from Hogwarts grounds says to me; no.

Pandora came and took a seat next to me, keeping a respectable gap between us. Taking the hint that my silence was a message in itself.

"Oh, Merlin..." she gasped taking a look at my face. I couldn't help but softly smile at her reaction, almost to say she shouldn't worry.

I was allowing myself to heal like a muggle would. No intervention of spells, except Madam Pomfrey's adamant insistence earlier of episkey; to fix the nose that Remus Lupin had indeed broken.

I kind of liked the black eye, in some way. Not just the way it looked, but the way it felt too. Tender to the touch. Tight to blink. Oddly, it felt...comforting, as a distraction. A simple touch pulled me out of thought, interrupting a cognitive process that often needed to come to an abrupt end.

Pandora bit her tongue. Countless times she has told me to tell someone about this sort of thing. I didn't believe it to be worth it. In some way I felt empathy for Remus and he'd get in more trouble than Sirius. I knew what it felt like to do anything Sirius said or asked for. How it felt to be under obligation to help someone you don't often agree with. Feels. Mainly however, I just didn't want to draw that kind of attention to myself. To paint myself a victim of any kind.

"Barty is worried about you." She said instead.

"Worried about me, or worried about himself and friendship?" I said just above a whisper. My voice a bit croaked from my deathly silence for the past hour or however long it had been since Sirius left and I had wandered further away from the castle.
