TOUCHÉ,
Sirius' POV.
———

"Where actually is he?" Pete asked with a confused scowl on his face.

Remus had been gone all afternoon, since lunch. Hadn't shown up to any of the second half of the days lessons.

"He's my potions partner. For Merlin's sake, he should have been here for revision." Pete sighed again, as we all dragged ourselves out of last period, potions, exhausted.

It was strange but not too strange, for Remus. He often skipped classes, depending on how he was feeling but would always catch up or even be ahead regardless of whether he was actually in the classroom or not. Though it was common for him to have moments of absence...he would normally tell us.

I couldn't help but feel as if it were my fault, as I shrugged off Peter's frustration alongside James' typical nonchalance.

We hadn't been getting along as easily for...maybe a year, possibly even two.

Which I know is my fault, but I thought we'd grown past what happened at the end of fifth year with Snape?

Remus held a grudge. We all knew this. He wasn't often someone to let things go, though he'd try. We've tried but something in our friendship broke after that moment and the summer he ignored every letter after until he was forced to see us September sixth year.

"He's probably just in pain or something. Is what it is." James shrugged, trying to shove his battered potions book into his bag as we walked.

"After the fight?" Peter said wondering out loud, a hint of concern and surprise in his voice.

The fight.

Surely not...

"He was fine." Slipped from my mouth, and I realised I was hiding the fact I was trying to convince myself more than Peter. A frown finding its way onto my face.

"Maybe he's bored of it." James said still struggling with his bags.

"Huh?"

"Yanno, fighting. It's not him really, is it? He's gone soft." James said giving up and aggressively half zipping up his bag anyway.

"He's not gone soft." Peter snickered.

"He's bored of us, Pete. Come on." James said as if it were nothing.

"What?" Both Peter and I said, stopping slightly in the middle of the hallway.

"Jeez guys," James pushed past us both and rolled his eyes.
"I ain't saying he hates us. I'm saying he's slowed the fuck down. Fix your faces before they stick."
