Noelle wasted no time wrapping her arms around Mother Gaia. Mother Gaia smiled as she embraced the child, petting her hair as Noelle heavily panted into her chest.
"You know what's going on, don't you?" Noelle asked after pulling away. Mother Gaia gave her a sad smile before nodding her head.
"Mother Gaia, you have to do something! I'm turning into someone I'm not, someone terrifying! A monster!" Noelle shouted, not out of anger but out of fear for what she could do. What she knew deep down she was going to do. Noelle knew if anybody were around to hear how she spoke to Mother Gaia, they'd strike her. Mother Gaia however knew her intentions weren't negative as she spoke.
"You gave me the gift of immortality and immunity. I am thankful for that, but you need to take them both back. They're heading to my body to wake me up and soon there will be nothing anybody can do to stop me." Noelle said, desperation lacing her voice. Mother Gaia reached forward, cupping her face once more with the palm of her hand. Mother Gaia shook her head at Noelle.
"My sweet child, I cannot." Mother Gaia replied.
"And why can't you? What do you know about this that I don't?!" Noelle asked, growing more and more frustrated by the minute.
"This is all supposed to happen, my dear." Mother Gaia said. Noelle processed it for a moment before taking a step back, shaking her head at the Goddess of Earth.
"I can't accept that. My friends and family are in danger, and you're telling me you can't help because of fate or destiny? What's going to happen to my friends? What am I going to do to them?" Noelle asked, blinking away tears in her eyes. She was growing more and more angry at the news. Mother Gaia sighed, stepping forward and resting her hands on the forearms of Noelle.
"I cannot reveal that, Noelle." Mother Gaia said. Noelle shook her head at her, taking a deep breath as she ran her fingers through her hair and backed away once more.
"What is it exactly you hope your friends will achieve if I do strip you of your immortality and immunity?" Mother Gaia asked, though deep down she believed she already knew the answer. Noelle stared at her, not having the heart to say it. She wasn't in that dark place she was her whole life anymore. After death, she found a desire to live. To try to make the most out of her life. And that's what she had been doing since. But, she knew there would be no other way to stop her unless they could give her a permanent ending. Mother Gaia sighed before clasping her hands together.
"I apologize that I cannot be of much help. But, I will leave you with this, Noelle. And it is something that you cannot tell others, for your own safety and for your friend's own safety." Mother Gaia said as she slowly approached her, this time not reaching out to touch her though she desperately wanted to comfort the young girl whom she had grown fond of.
"You're immune to only dark objects and bad intentions. Your enemies cannot lay a finger on you, because of what it is they truly desire. Your friends.." Mother Gaia said but trailed off.
"They only have good intentions." Noelle quietly finished. Mother Gaia smiled at her. She then looked up at the sky, feeling the wind moving rapidly. Noelle brushed the flowing hair out of her face trying her hardest to look up at Mother Gaia.
"What's happening?!" Noelle shouted over the wind.
"It's time for the both of us to go." Mother Gaia said, her voice sounding grave. Noelle gave her a confused work. Mother Gaia quickly clasped her hands on the shoulders of Noelle.
"The advice I gave you is only good if you can remember. Your consciousness will peek through every now and then, but not for long. Try to fight them, my sweet girl!" Mother Gaia said before Noelle disappeared before her. She straightened herself, immediately turning back to the individual whom she knew had just arrived.
"Hello, Gaia." Hypnos said with a smirk. Mother Gaia shook her head at him, not caring for the greeting he gave her given the circumstances.
"My time is up." Mother Gaia said. Hypnos only nodded.
"You're not the least bit curious as to why I am injecting into you?" Hypnos asked as he pulled out a syringe with black liquid.
"I am very wise and all-knowing, Hypnos. I am aware that is the blood of Thanatos and what it'll do to me. Demeter, Persephone, and Donovan will try their hardest to revive the ground they walk on, but will fail because I am not like the rest of you. I do not possess the flesh you do on my own. And because I do not, there is nothing to heal. This is to be my death." Mother Gaia replied, a tear dripping down her mint-colored face. Hypnos only hummed as he readied the syringe at her neck.
"Any last words, Gaia?" Hypnos asked. Mother Gaia slowly turned, and the sweet expression that remained on her face melted away.
"Rot in Tartarus." Mother Gaia said, making Hypnos laugh.
"But, of course, your command is no good here in the mind realm." Hypnos said before injecting the poison into her bloodstream. Meanwhile, at Poseidon's palace in Atlantis, Noelle rose from her bed upon being awoken, gasping as she did. Thanatos quickly crouched down beside her with a hand placed on her back as she took deep breaths. She turned to him, not feeling afraid as he said she wouldn't feel. But she wasn't content either. He lifted his hand up to cup her cheek, making her turn away out of spite. He then gripped ahold of her chin, not bothering to be gentle. She whimpered in his grasp, her eyes fluttering as tears threatened her eyes. He tilted her chin down to get a better look into her eyes.
"Phelia." Thanatos called. The expression on Noelle's face changed as Thanatos let go of his grip. She sat there expressionless staring at him. She soon turned ahead of her, examining her bedroom at Poseidon's palace, which was dark and only lit by a candle or two. She then broke out into a sadistic smile, turning back to Thanatos. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into her. He lifted her up off the ground with his arms wrapped tightly around her waist and face buried into the crook of her neck. The conscious part of Noelle wondered why she wasted no time wrapping her arms around him. The subconscious part of her knew she did it out of fear, not wanting to upset him. Thanatos, however, was pleased. He could see how much progress she had made and was proud of both himself and Hypnos for having created the perfect little monster for him. Even if Hypnos never truly knew what Thanatos's intentions were here.
"Darling, we have to return to the Underworld now before our enemies find you awake. I know you just awoke from your slumber, but are you well enough to walk?" Thanatos asked as he set her back down, resting his hands on her shoulders. She didn't respond, she only stared up at him.
"You are permitted to speak." Thanatos said.
"My legs feel stiff, but I should be able to." Noelle immediately replied. Just then, the two heard footsteps down the hall heading towards her bedroom. Noelle quickly pushed Thanatos across the room and into the bathroom. She pressed a finger to her lips, indicating he needed to be quiet. She then shut the door and approached her bedside, finding her trident sitting there. Upon hearing the door open, she twisted around with the trident behind her back. Heath walked in, his eyes on the floor before finding the bed. He frowned before snapping his head in the direction of the figure. His eyes widened as he spotted Noelle standing there.
"Noelle?" Heath questioned cautiously, unsure of which Noelle he'd be greeted with.
How'd she wake up? Who woke her?
Heath wondered. After a moment, Noelle smiled before saying,
"Hello, Heath."
