Heath sat in silence, which bugged Noelle. She was expecting him to already have a question in his mind so they could get this over with. Noelle never liked people getting to know her. Perhaps before her mother's death, she would've. But after she only realized she'd be opening up to the possibility of getting herself hurt once more.
"Are you going to ask anything?" Noelle asked, impatience lacing her voice.
"I only get 10. I'm trying to think of the things I've been wondering about you for years." Heath explained. Noelle felt her cheeks heat up. She turned her head away so that Heath wouldn't see her blush. Noelle wondered if he had really wanted to get to know her that badly.
"Why do you hate me?" Heath asked.
"I never said I did. I don't have the talent of conversing." Noelle answered.
"Elaborate." Heath said.
"That is my answer, I won't go anymore into it." Noelle said, causing Heath to sigh.
"As the daughter of Poseidon-" Heath started, but Noelle was quick to cut him off.
"I am no daughter of Poseidon." Noelle stated clearly, but Heath just made no comment on what she said. He didn't know why she felt the way she did about her father. He had thought they had a good relationship, as well as the other Half-bloods.
"Do you feel a sort of connection?" Heath asked.
"Elaborate." Noelle said. Heath felt a small smile curl on his face, noticing that she used the same word that he did.
"Hades visits me. Not in person, of course, considering he can't. But, he does. I feel his presence. I turn and he's there. And he'll spend time with me, he'll talk to me. It's like I can feel him. Do you feel that connection with your own father?" Heath asked, looking over at her. Noelle bit her lip as she was deep in thought. Heath had to turn away from the sight. It was a bit much for his teenage hormones.
"I did before my mother died. I don't remember much, considering I was younger than 6 when I'd see him. I remember his calm demeanor. I remember his smooth voice. I remember his cerulean blue eyes. They always reminded me of the ocean. Ironic, huh? But, I don't remember the connection. Or the feeling of having him near. I cut off the connection after... after she died." Noelle said. Heath had a question he always wanted to know. But, he just wasn't sure if he should ask it or not. He waited a moment before speaking. The question was just eating at him, he wanted to know.
"How did she die?" Heath asked, feeling nervous about her response. He didn't want her to blow up at her, though he was half expecting it. He wasn't sure if he seemed insensitive or not for asking. When she didn't respond he immediately panicked.
"If you're not comfortable with answering, you do not have to, Noelle." Heath reassured her. She frowned ever so slightly at what he said. She knew she didn't have to.
"She drowned." Noelle finally responded. It was silent for a moment, but that silence was quick to go away when Zander, son of Zeus, barged into the car. Being good friends with Heath, he patted him on the shoulder. Then moved to Noelle, patted her head, and ruffled it. She quickly turned to slap his hand away. She hated it when he'd mess with her hair like that. He always managed to tangle his fingers into her hair, pulling a few strands out when he pulled his hand away.
"Listen, you guys. I don't know if you know this, but I've never met my dad before, alright-" Zander started, but Noelle cut him off.
"We know. None of us have either." Noelle said like it was obvious, which to her it was. Zander thought her tone to be rude.
"Thank you for cutting me off, you little ray of sunshine." Zander said, patting her head once more. This time, Noelle turned completely in her seat and started smacking him. Zander hid his head under his arm to keep Noelle from messing with his face.
"Wow. How can you put up with that, Heath? I bet you just love it when she hits you." Zander said, winking. Both Noelle and Heath turned back to look at him in disbelief at what he said. Zander looked between the two.
"What? Oh.. I see.. it hasn't happened yet. Awkward..." Zander said. Heath shook his head in disbelief and Noelle scoffed, turning away from Zander.
"Anyways. I've gotta make a good impression so he can put in a good word for me with Aphrodite. So none of you try to steal my thunder, alright?" Zander joked, laughing obnoxiously afterward. Noelle groaned at Zanders' terrible joke.
"You do know Aphrodite is your half-sister right?" Noelle asked.
"No, she isn't." Zander said, wiping fake tears from his eyes, still laughing at his terrible joke.
"You two have different mothers, but you have the same father. Which means you two are half-siblings." Noelle said, her voice indicating she was amused.
"N-no." Zander stutters. He then realizes that Aphrodite is indeed his half-sister.
"Oh, oh no. Oh god, no." Zander says, putting his head in his hands. Noelle laughed in the front seat. It goes unnoticed by Zander, but not Heath. Heath is mesmerized. He's pulled out of the trance Noelle has on him, when Donovan, son of Demeter, and Amara, daughter of Athena, get in the back seat beside Zander, squishing him in the process. He lets out a yelp and turns to the two of them with an annoyed look on his face. Donovan closed his door while Amara tried to pull her equipment into the car with her.
"Do you really need all of those weapons, Mara?" Heath asks, looking into the rearview mirror, watching Amara struggle.
"I tried to tell her not to bring so many, but she wouldn't listen." Donovan explained.
"We're taking on possibly the biggest threat we'll ever have to face. Each and every single one of these weapons is necessary!" Amara claims.
"You are aware there are 4 other people in the car with incredible abilities as well, correct?" Noelle asked. Noelle often found Amara to be annoying. Amara wasn't really like her mother. Noelle had no doubt that Amara was wise, but she knew Amara didn't use her head often. Or at least, that's how it seemed. Amara was however incredibly with any and every weapon she wields. Noelle gave her props for that.
"Yes, but I am essential to this team." Amara claimed. Noelle also found Amara to be prideful. It especially upset her. Nobody else seemed to have much of an issue with her.
"Alright. Let's get this show on the road." Donovan said, almost sounding excited.
"You really want to go do this, Donovan?" Heath asked.
"No, but what choice do we have?" Donovan asked. Noelle nodded her head in agreement with his words.
"Where exactly are we going?" Donovan asked.
"Great question.," Noelle said, pulling a map out of the pocket of her jacket. She unfolded the large map, almost hitting Heath in the face once it was fully unfolded. She turned to him and mouthed 'sorry'. She quickly noticed how it was unlike her to do so. She hoped this wouldn't continue. Heath however did. For possibly the millionth time that day, he felt his lips curling up into a smile. He really couldn't help it.
"Cronus is buried in Nova Scotia." Noelle said.
"Why Nova Scotia?" Donovan asked.
"Like I'd have a clue," Noelle mumbled, taking the map and putting it back into her pocket. "It'll take around 15 hours to get there." Noelle continued.
"What? Cronus could be halfway across the Atlantic by then!" Amara exclaimed.
"I highly doubt it. He's been asleep for many years. It'd take a while for him to gather his strength back and be able to swim across the Atlantic to Europe." Noelle explained.
"Wait, we're going to Europe?" Zander asked. Everybody then turned to face him, not believing what he just asked.
"Zander, the entrance to Olympus is in Greece." Heath said.
"Wait? Greece is in Europe?" Zander asked, causing everyone to groan. Zanders' jaw dropped and he opened his mouth to speak.
"You all knew this?!"
