Part 13

We start getting ready to leave at first light just like big John said.
"That site's a whole day's walk. We gotta get up there before moonrise. If we miss the solstice then all this was for nothing. So listen Stella I'm telling you right now if you fall behind I ain't waiting." Big john tells me
"Dad. Stop!" John B says
"I ain't! What? I ain't. It's a matter of fact" Big John says
"Sorry about the cranky old man" John B says to me

"I'm gonna go tell that son of a bitch he ain't coming" Big John tells us as my dad wobbles over
"Dad hey" John B tells big John
"Hey listen fellas. I'm real sorry but uh... I'm not gonna be able to make it up that mountain not on this leg. I'd be slowing you down that's all. So I'm just gonna hang here. Tell you what I got a flare gun. If I see Singh come through here I'll send up a flare. Let you all know he's coming. Least I can do." My dad tells us
"Thank you" I tell him
"You're welcome. Good luck." He tells us
"Let's go. Come on" John B tells us as we walk off

The hike is absolutely exhausting. If we don't find the gold my legs will physically just die.
"Come on kids. Pick it up! I don't got time to waste." Big John tells us
We've been hiking for hours and I start to fall behind a bit with John b
"Come on. Stella" Big John says
"Hey. Are you good?" I ask John B seeing something on his face
"Yeah" John B says
"Come on let's get a move on!" Big John tells
"Hey Pop. How about we take a breather you know?" John B tells him
"How about not?" Big John says
"Come on boy. You're both slowing me down.
We're losing light." Bug John tells him
"I can't take this anymore." John b says as he stops walking
"It's the only shot we got. Come on." Big John says. John B catches up to his father to talk to him but little did they know I could hear their conversation.
"You think she's spying on you?" John B asks him
"Are you really so sure about her?" Big John asks him
"A Cameron. That whole family is trust-challenged and you know that." Big John says
"Mm-hmm. But you've known Stella before you left. " John B tells him
"You can stay back here and babysit your girlfriend. It's your choice. I'll see you at the top." Big john tells him as I catch up.
"Sorry. Camerons aren't really a hiking family if I'm being honest" I tell john b
"Sorry about him. He gets a little obsessive over the treasure." John b tells me
"And you don't?" I smile
"Stop." He laughs
"Let's go. Come on." I laugh as we try to catch up

We finally make it to the top of the hill we have been hiking on for hours
"Whoo-hoo! Come on. Take a look at this" Big John smiles
"Sorry. I had to catch my breath" I tell big John
"Catch it when you get here. Take a look at that. Look at that." Big John says
"Wow." I mumble looking out
"We did it boy. There she blows. Solana. Come on. Let's keep trucking. At least it's downhill huh?" Big John says walking off again

We finally reach Solana by night time. The columns were a lot bigger than I thought they would be. 
"Do you see that? Oh my God. It's just as the legend predicted it. See these four columns here? Mark the cardinal directions. And there it is. The temalacatl." Bug john tells us
"I'll be damned" John B says
"Oh my. I can't believe it. Oh it's as real as the day boy. A thousand years of astronomy
mathematics is all contained in this. This proves that the Kalinago were every bit the equal to the Mayans. This... this is gonna rewrite everything.
Oh you see that? This right here. That's where she goes." Big John says
"Yeah yeah. Get the gnomon out" John B tells him
"Come on. That's where the gnomon goes. Look at this. This is it. This is the moment boy.
Nice and easy. Nice and easy. That's right. Boy look at this. Please please please." Big John says and starts laughing when the gnomon fits into place.
"Oh my God. Yo listen up. When the moon hits its zenith that's when the action starts. Okay John B I want you on translation. Stella gather up some mud. And mark the glyph so we know what to translate. You got it? Be quick okay?" He tells us
"Got it" I nod
"Hey hey. Aye aye captain. Relax" John B tells big John
"We only got one shot at this. I don't want any back talk." Big John says
"Okay okay. Star you wanna help me with this?" John b asks me
"Of course" I smile
"It's in here. Okay. Just give it time." Big John says
"Oh. Whoa. Guys. Guys. Guys." John B says
"This is it. It's actually working." Big John says as we watch the moonlight shine down on the gnomon and the glyphs start to illuminate.
