As the sun set we started up a fire and were celebrating in the back. We were all just dancing and laughing just like old times. I jumped on John b's back as he spun me around. "To the Blue Crown" JJ says as him and pope cheer "Save poguelandia" I smile
After a while everyone slowly spilt up, either lying down or just sitting and enjoying the weather. John b and I both sat alone by the fire and I turned to face him. "So I... I have something for you" John b tells me "I have something I wanna give you" I smile "Me too" John b laughs "Is it what I think it is?" I smirk "I don't know is it?" John b asks "Do you wanna like um do it at the same time? Do you wanna go first?" He asks "Same time" I nod "Same time? On three?" He asks
"One...two..." he says and I just raise mine up. He starts to laugh as I laugh too. "Wait show me yours" I say He holds it up and we both stare at each other holding our wedding rings.
I hold out my hand and he puts it on. "I made it out of the old tree at the Chateau" he tells me "I made this out of PBR cans" I tell him holding it up and we both break out laughing "I love it" he smiles "You can't say I'm not thoughtful" I laugh then I put it on his finger
I look up at him. "You may now kiss the bride" I smile "Gladly" he smiles back before bringing me into a kiss
John b and I had fallen asleep pretty fast last night. But in the morning when I woke up I could hear it.
"It happened a few times this summer. A storm out over the Atlantic, hundreds of miles away... sending ripples right over the pond. If you grew up on the Outer Banks you could just tell. No matter where you were, you could hear it."
I stood outside with JJ as I woke up and could just sense it. I stare at him with a big smile. "We're going to the beach!" JJ yells "Wakey wakey everybody!!" I yell running inside
"It didn't matter what you planned on doing that day. You hit the break, no matter what."
"Yeah baby, now that's a perfect swell. It's probably the best of the year." JJ says looking at his phone as I wax my board "Come on. Are you guys seriously surfing today?" Pops asks walking in "Oh don't don't" John b mumbles "As opposed to what?" Kie asks "Well I don't wanna sell the million dollars I have in my hand for 50K so... I'm gonna look into this." He tells us "Wait pope you just heard me right? I said it's a perfect swell day." JJ says "Yeah and there'll be other swell days." Pops says "Oh wow" I mumble surprised "That's like saying there's other pizza to eat all right? Like come on now are you serious?" JJ asks "Listen to your earth mother pope, she's like begging you to surf" kie tells him "I think my earth mother is telling me to maximize our intel" he says
"Mines telling me to maximize the swell. Hey wait weren't you the guy who also surfed the surge?" I tell him "That was before all this. Everyone have fun maximizing" pope says "Hey wait where's Cleo?" I ask as he starts to walk off "Oh yeah she just texted me. She said that she was on pogue patrol and she's looking for bait in the cut." He says "Lame. Tell her we're closed" kie says "I'll text her right now" he mumbles
"Pope hey hey rule number one, pope no working on a swell day. That's rule number one" JJ tells him "Hey somebody's gotta do it. You guys have fun, catch a nasty one for me." He says "Miss you already" I yell "Are you gonna meet us there?" JJ asks as he walks off
"Pull up here on the left" JJ says as we drive up to the beach He starts to bounce up and down happy when we see the waves. "Out there. They're out there. John b, Ella look." He says as John b pushes him back bc he couldn't see while he was driving
We drive through the sand and JJ opens the sliding door. I lean out the window laughing as he sits on the edge touching the sand as we drove. John b stops the car and we get out looking at the waves. JJ lets out a cheer of happiness "Hell yeah!!" I yell and JJ gives me a big high five
"Don't you just immediately feel like life is better at the beach?" Kie asks "No doubt in that" I smile
"Easy with her. I've had this thing sense I was three" JJ says as we sit chairs down "Oh God. Half baked Poguelandia. Get the board" John b says "This is gonna be amazing" I smile "Let's get the boards out" JJ cheers walking over to the van
"Oh boy" John b mumbles "What?" JJ asks and we turn to see the kook crew driving up I let out a sigh "You're joking" I mumble "Don't stop" JJ mumbles "Anywhere but here" kie mumbles as well They drive past us and I see people I've never even seen before "Damn new kooks pop up everyday" I say and kie nods in agreement "Don't stop" JJ mumbles again and of course they stop. "Oh you're joking. Of course they stop here." Kie says "Why wouldn't they? There's only a entire beach" I say "We were here first. It's a waste of waves if you ask me" kie groans "Couldn't agree more" I mumble
I walk over to John b who was still looking. "Great, my brothers here" I mumble seeing him walk out of a car He turns to me and gives me a kiss "Hey yall. John b. Sunshine's coming. What do you think he wants?" JJ asks from the top of the van "What does he ever want?" Kie says "Don't let him antagonize you" I tell John b "I got him" John b says "Ok" I say looking at him with a face "I'm gonna be cool" he tells me "Ok sureeee" I say dragging it out as he walks over to topper
I watch as they have a conversation then John b turns back and walks over to us. Maybe it went fine?
