Part 3

We kept working on everything for what felt like weeks, lifting up the walls, putting a roof, decorating, all the shit when building a surf shop.

"Damn that looks good" John b says
"Whoo!!" JJ cheers from the roof

I started to paint our surf board and write our shop name on it, kie and Sarah started working on the garden. Then all 4 of us watched the boys hang up the fake shark they found.
"Bring it on home John b!" JJ yells as they finally get it up

Now it was onto the inside, fixing up the wires, getting it all nice and ready. And of course, JJ fixed the poguelandia flag like back at the island.

We were all finishing up the last touches, putting up signs and menus, I had helped JJ paint his sign and he was putting it out by the boat. It was all finally coming together.

"Hey guys" JJ calls out and we all look at him
"I think we did it. We're in business baby! Wow! Oh my gosh this feels good! Look at this look at that! Like oh my God!" JJ cheers
"That boy is mad" cleo laughs
"Captain Maybank at your service! Now that has a ring to it. Nothing can stop a pogue! Nothing! Whoa, that's what I'm talking about!" Jj yells and jumps around

"Is he ok?" Sarah asks smiling
"Yeah yeah" kie smiles
"He's more than ok" I smile
"Yeah, he's just never really had a home. He's happy" kie smiles

I just watch JJ dance around, smiling and laughing. And I couldn't help but smile myself, JJ had a home, he had a real family, that's all he ever wanted. Kie starts to walk down towards him as I wrap my arm around Sarah.
"I love you Sarah" I smile giving her a big side hug
"I love you too" she smiles back before pushing me towards John b.

John b gladly grabs me and kisses my head, then we all start cheering as JJ and kie kiss.

We did it, somehow, someway, the Pogues did it.

"It's a nice day" kie says
"Yeah" Sarah nods as we all just sit around waiting for a customer to show up

I hear something towards the water and look over, sure enough there was a boat.
"Guys boat boat. It's a boat" I tell him
"Ohhh snap" kie says
"Hey hey wake up wake up!" I yell at JJ and John b
"Get ready" cleo says
"It's our first customer! It's our first customer!" I smile

I watch as everyone starts to make sure the guys got just what they wanted, now we're we probably a little overboard with it...yeah but who cares, it was our first customer.

The man starts to check out with kie and he talks with us.
"I wish yall had opened sooner" he says
"We're gonna be opening up 24/7 my first so nothing to worry about" JJ tells him
"Not actually true, we're not open 24/7." Pope says
"Still working on the hours" kie tells him

He starts to walk off on the phone with someone telling them about our shop.
"Keep the change" the other guy says after getting his things
"Tell your friends" pope says
"Oh we will" the man smiles

"First sale baby! Whoo!" JJ cheers
"He said we were the tits" I laugh holding the dollar bill
"I know." JJ cheers
"First dollar of our first ever sale" I smile showing John b

John b hands me a stabler and I pin it up against the wall. And once I did we all started to cheer once again.
"We did it!" I smile jumping into John bs arms

"Hey guys" cleo says
"Yeah?" Kie asks
"Incoming! We're open!" Cleo yells
"We got more!" JJ yells
"Keep em coming!" John b cheers

It really worked. It was what we all wanted. It wasn't gold. It wasn't treasure. It wasn't even adventure. And some of us still had dreams. Kiera still wanted to save the dolphins and the turtles. Pope was planning on going back to school. Sarah was looking into going to school as well actually, she wants to become a lawyer, she hopes one day if we needed she could be one of our lawyers, that is if we get ourselves into anymore trouble, which is most likely going to happen knowing us. But in the mean time, for all of us, we were just working. Together.

We all sat on the dock, living the life. Fishing, tanning, drinking, laughing. What more could we want right?

And when we weren't running charters, we were catching dinner. Or growing it. And maybe growing some other things. It was all of us, together. Well most of the time.

I walk towards the room to go grab my jacket out of there. But once I get there the door was closed with a sea shell on the handle.
"Oh sorry. That's getting excessive" I mumble grosses out knowing it was JJ- I won't finish that sentence.

It was like what we had on the island, but even better, it was home. Treasure hunting was in the past. Dead and buried. We were gonna live the good life. The simple life. We had everything we needed.

I walk up to John b who was watching the sun set, I smile at him before he turns and looks at me. He puts his hands on my cheeks before bringing me into a kiss.

But what we didn't know at the time, was that nothing ever stands still. And there were some dark secrets hidden in the marsh.

"Maybe we need a couple more grouper rigs. They keep running out" kie tells me and I write it down
"Popular" JJ says
"Hey welcome in. Uh let us know if we can help you with anything" kie says to someone who walked in

He walks around not saying a word and I look up from my paper not feeling good about him.
"What can you tell me about the currents out at Teacher's hole?" He asks
"Uh nasty rips. Most locals won't go near it, why?" Kie asks
"Heard there's some good action at the jelly there. All that structure. Lot of places for fish to hide" he says playing with the knife we pulled out of the package

"You're those treasure hunting kids. I've heard about you guys." He says
"Not anymore" Kie answers and he just stares at all of us
"Can we help you with anything else?" Kie asks
But he just drops the knife and walks out
"Are you gonna pay for that?" John b asks

"What the hell was that?" I ask
"I don't know. That was weird." Kie answers as I look out the window watching him drive off
