A few months had passed since they went to Heritage Hall.

Alistair expressed his feelings for Bunny to Cupid, but she merely laughed when he finally did tell her. "Trust me, I've known," she said.

Slowly, Cupid began to trust Alistair more and more.

She opened up to him, about her deep feelings for Dexter, about the troubles at home, and she even told him one thing that she had never told anyone before.

"I'm adopted," she confessed.

Alistair's eyes widened. He didn't say a word.

"I was left at my father's doorstep, I don't know who my real parents are," she looked down, "And why they abandoned me."

She tucked a strand away from her face. Alistair looked at her with an expression that she couldn't decipher. She continued, "My father doesn't love me. Home doesn't feel safe, like ever."

She tried to cover up her sad tone with a cough, but Alistair reached out for her shoulder. He pat it twice. "Thanks for telling me that, I never knew."

Every time she told him something new about her, he never says much. He listens, he tries to give solutions. But when he can't come up with one, he simply stays by her side. Cupid's grateful for that. She realized that he's different, not necessarily the friend she wished for and longed for, but the friend she stumbled into, the friend that she realized she needed.

His silence brings her comfort, she once thought. But she soon learned that he brings her comfort. Alistair as a whole is a mix of simplicity, kindness, and hope. He radiates joy and comfort wherever he goes.

Their friendship was closed off, just the two of them inside a bubble. Whenever they pass each others in the halls, they would talk when they could, and sometimes Cupid would join Alistair and Bunny at lunch. That was it. At least that's what everybody sees.

What they don't know, is that Cupid and Alistair are closer to each other than anyone is.

They would meet at the rooftop every night. Often, they would share the stories in their life and their experiences, or Cupid would give Alistair advice on his feelings for Bunny, while teasing him every few minutes. But sometimes, they would just sit on the bench, side by side, and stare off into the night sky. Their presence is enough for each other.

Their friendship was simple. Their friendship was everything.

At this point, Cupid began to wonder, what was life like before Alistair came into her life?

The grass crunched as Cupid walked on it.

She breathed in the crisp air of the forest. Cupid continued her stroll until a gazebo came into view. Under the gazebo, was Alistair, sitting alone, playing chess with himself. Cupid's lips perked up, she began to walk quicker.

Without saying a word, Cupid sat in front of Alistair. He looked up and jumped, dropping a chess piece that he was holding. His hand made its way onto his heart. "Cupid, you shocked me!"

Cupid scoffed. "I can see that." She put her hand on the table and rested her head on it.

He picked the chess piece that he dropped, and stood it upright.

"What are you doing here, Cupid?" he sighed.

Cupid smiled. "I was bored, so I looked for you."

"You wanna play chess or something?"

She gave him a look.

"No chess. Why don't you do something fun with me?"

"No thank you."
