Cupid stood there, staring at her closed locker.

"Cupid!" somebody shouted at her.

Cupid's head snapped up to the familiar sound. She turned around. Alistair was standing at the end of the hall. He waved at her. Cupid's lips formed a smile at the sight of him. Shouldn't she be avoiding him for now?

But Alistair waved again, and Cupid found herself unable to avoid him.

She waved back to him, smiling.

Her smile wavered slightly when she saw Bunny appearing beside Alistair. His attention was quickly diverted from Cupid to Bunny. Cupid's smile vanished, lowering her hand. She turned back to her locker, looking down at her shoes.

She was happy for Alistair and Bunny, truly. They had something great that not many people have together. They were perfect for each other.

Cupid bit her inner lip.

Things had suddenly become so much harder at the discovery of her feelings towards Alistair.

She felt so conflicted by her own thoughts, by her own feelings.

Okay, she knows that she likes Alistair.

What now?

Cupid almost wanted to bang her head on her locker, but of course, she wouldn't do that in front of all the people standing around in the hallway. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. It's fine, she'll think about it after class.

Cupid turned, and her eyes met the big monitor in front of her. All the people were suddenly looking at the big TV on the wall in front of them. Blondie appeared on the monitor. Cupid usually stops to watch the MirrorCast, but she doesn't feel like watching it today. She turned around, about to walk to her class, when she heard a glitching sound.

Cupid turned around again, looking at the monitor. Blondie's face and voice started to glitch, and suddenly, the monitor went blank. Cupid shrugged, maybe it's broken. But before she can leave, it turns on again. But this time, Blondie wasn't the one on the monitor. It was a video of... trees? No, leaves? Cupid scrunched her eyebrows.

"What's this?" people murmured. "Is that thing broken? I want to watch the MirrorCast," one said.

Cupid tilted her head. Whoever took this video was clearly not a professional, the video was quite blurry and shaky. The leaves began to rustle softly. Cupid's eyes darted to the clock, class starts in a few minutes. Cupid looked at the monitor again. Someone probably hacked the system as a joke.

But suddenly, the cameraman seemed to lift his camera, showing no more leaves, but two people, standing in front of each other.

Cupid squinted her eyes.

Her jaw dropped. Her arms started to shake, making the book fall from her hands. The people didn't seem to notice the book though, as their attention was focused on the monitor, the two people displayed in front of them.

The video was blurry, but the features of the people in it were visible enough to distinguish.

They all turned to look at Cupid.

"Cupid, is that you?" someone asked.

Cupid didn't see who they were, her eyes were staring straight at the video in front of her, eyes wide. The volume increased. Cupid had no choice but to listen.

"I thought you wanted to make me proud?"

"I did, father."

"Then what happened to that?"

Cupid's lips trembled.

No.

Please no.

"I couldn't father. No matter what I do, you would never be proud of me. All my life, all I wanted to do was to be the Cupid that you wanted. But no matter how hard I tried, you were never satisfied, not even in the slightest. I can't live like that, not anymore."

"Be the Cupid that I wanted? Oh don't joke around. You've always wanted to be Cupid, not because of me."

"That's true father, I've always wanted to be Cupid. But not the one that you expect from me. I don't want to be like you."

Cupid started to breathe faster, her lungs felt as if they were constricting on itself.

Please not this, anything but this, she prayed.

Not in front of all Ever After.

"Father, you claim to be love in a living form, but I don't think you even know what love is."

Cupid could feel all their eyes on her.

The montage kept playing as Eros slapped Cupid across the face. They all gasped, putting their hands to their lips, whispering to each other, staring at Cupid, their faces painted with shock, and, pity.

"You-You tried to humiliate me in front of everybody in Ever After? The orphan who's real parents abandoned her in front of my doorstep? The worthless girl who's nothing without my mercy?"

The whispers became louder.

"She's adopted?"

"I didn't know she was adopted."

"Orphan?"

Cupid drowned out their whispers.

"I wonder whether your head is empty, or do you merely seek shame? You brought this upon yourself, so why are you crying?"

Eros let out a scoff, "Look at you, so much determination, so much faith in yourself, you disgust me,"

They watched as they saw Eros grabbed Cupid's hair mercilessly, pulling back, as if she was a circus animal, unwilling to behave.

"Let me go,"

"I said, let me go!" she screamed.

They looked at her, unbelieving.

"Take a look at yourself now. Broken. Where's the confident girl I saw up there on the stage?" He chuckled. "She's gone in a second, not surprising."

The video kept going, until it showed Eros walking away, leaving Cupid on the ground, a puddle of mess. The camera moved, eliciting a sound.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

Cupid's chest was heaving, she felt like she was going to vomit, or faint.

"Show yourself, or it won't be pretty,"

And the video ended.
