Luna was impatient to get Alistair and Cupid off her back.
They got a few more rounds around Ever After, laughing like young idiots as the cold night air hit their faces. But Luna finally dropped them off, in the middle of Ever After.
Alistair helped Cupid down from Luna. He ran his hand on her scales one last time, thanking her for their ride, though Cupid kept telling him that she doesn't understand a single thing he was saying.
And then she flew away, likely flying back to her home.
Alistair and Cupid's eyes stayed on the magnificent dragon as she flew away.
Cupid smiled.
"Well that was nice," she remarked. Alistair turned to her, letting out a playful scoff. "Nice, Cupid?" he shook his head, scoffing, "No. It was absolutely wonderful! And you're going to be grateful to me for the rest of your life, because I just gave you one of your core memories." He winked. Cupid could argue back, but she was just too happy, and he was just too right. The euphoric feeling from their ride was still glued onto her. She was practically beaming.
"Thank you, Alistair, truly."
Alistair gave her a lopsided smile.
"This was the experience of a lifetime, and I'm forever grateful to have experienced this," her eyes crinkled as she smiled, "Especially with you."
Alistair felt glee overflowing his heart.
He was just as grateful, to see her finally smile again.
Cupid looked down at her watch, her body jumping slightly. "Look at the time it's almost curfew!" she said, freaking out slightly. She looked up at Alistair, "Well, I'm sad that we have to go back, but-"
"Woah," he cut her off, "Go back? Who said anything about going back to our boring dorms already?" Cupid looked up at him, furrowing her brows. "What, do you have more things in plan for us?" her jaw dropped, "Are we going to fight a troll?" she asked sarcastically. Alistair put his hand on Cupid's head, ruffling her hair. Cupid huffed at the action.
"No, but come on, look around!"
Cupid patted her hair down. She looked around. Everything was closed and dark. The cafes all had 'closed' signs on their doors, and the only lights that were there came from the glow of the streetlights. Alistair's face lit up. He opened his arms wide, facing her. "Ever After is asleep, Cupid, shouldn't we make the best of that?" he said excitedly.
Cupid smiled at his joyful state. "And tell me, Alistair, what is it that we would do?" Cupid folded her arms, taking a step closer to him, "Two young students, completely alone, in the dark, without anyone to bust them for anything?"
Even in the dark, she could see his cheeks turn into a soft shade of red.
Cupid burst out into laughter. Alistair scowled. He turned and began walking away from her. Cupid began walking after him, but he started to walk faster. Cupid grinned, "Hey! Where are you going?" she laughed. She ran, catching up to him. She hit his arm, "Oh come on, don't be so flustered now." Alistair gave her a side-eye glare. He turned to the left, entering a closed store.
"Hey!" she yelled, going inside after him, "You can't just enter a random store!"
Alistair's glare was gone by now. His eyes twinkled. It was dark inside, but out of nowhere, the lights went on, and Cupid's eyes were greeted by a flurry of colours. Her mouth opened. Her eyes moved around. Colourful doors littered the walls and the roof, crazy teapots flew all over the place, and hundreds of clocks, all telling the wrong time and moving weirdly. Cupid found herself speechless.
They found themselves at The Wonderland Haberdashery & Tea Shoppe, all for the two of them this time.
Cupid's eyes went to Alistair. He shrugged innocently, grabbing a teapot from the air, and poured the tea into a strange-looking cup. He offered the cup to her, tilting his head. "Want some?" Cupid's mouth twisted. Alistair walked over to her, putting the cup to her lips. "Drink, it's so good."
Cupid opened her mouth, taking a small sip. The sweet taste overwhelmed her. It was delicious. Her face brightened. She took the cup from his hand, drinking it on her own. Alistair smirked, "Welcome to my world, darling," he looked up at the roof, admiring the doors above him, "One day, I'd take you to Wonderland, I promise."
Cupid put down the cup on the table, but it quickly flew away into the air with the other set of cups. She let out a chuckle, "Yeah, I don't know if I'd be able to process it all," she pointed around, "This whole Wonderland thing."
"But you love it, I can tell."
"Oh yeah," she replied.
Alistair turned and walked to the counter, where the funny looking cashier machine was. He opened the drawers under the counter. Cupid walked to his side, looking at all the unusual things inside. Alistair opened one drawer to the other, then stopping on the last drawer. His eyes gleamed. Cupid peeked over his shoulder. "What's inside?" she asked. Alistair turned to her, holding a small glass jar in his fingers.
It was a clear jar, with a cork on top. Inside was a metallic blue liquid, swirling around. Cupid's eyes didn't leave the jar. Tied around the jar, was a small piece of parchment, and on it were the words, 'Drink Me'.
Alistair gave her a challenging look, opening the cork. Cupid's eyes widened. She pulled his hand down before he could drink the liquid. "Woah!" she freaked out, "You can't just drink that! You don't even know what it is and what it'll do!" Alistair rolled his eyes at her warning. He let out a laugh, "It will probably make us small or something! I mean, the one that my mom drank made her smaller," he looked at her expectantly. Cupid shook her head, "Nope, I am not drinking whatever that liquid is."
Alistair let out a groan. "Please?" he begged, "Come on, let's share it, I'll drink half, and you'll drink half of it! We'd be small, and we could travel around in our micro bodies, seeing things from a new point of view! How fun would that be?"
Cupid narrowed her eyes, "Are you crazy!? For all we know, that could be poison," she began pacing around, "Or you know, something that really might just change the trajectory of our lives forever!"
Alistair burst out laughing, "Oh come on!" he shook his head, "There's no way."
Little did he know, that Cupid would be right.
Little did Cupid know, that she was right also.
And so rolled her eyes, letting out a groan as she crossed her arms on her chest.
"You know what, fine," she raised her hands in defeat. "But I'm just saying, if something bad happens to us, I'll kill you," she threatened, looking Alistair dead in the eyes, "I mean it, loverboy."
Alistair hollered excitedly. "Okay, okay!" He offered the jar to her, "Ladies first." Cupid scoffed. She took the jar from his hand. She brought it to her lips, and slowly took a sip. Quickly pushing the jar away from her, she coughed, her eyes wrinkling. "What the hell is this!? It tastes terrible!" She only managed to take a gulp from the horrid-tasting drink. Alistair took it from her hand, "It's not supposed to taste good, stupid!"
He downed the rest of the liquid in one go.
Cupid's eyes widened. Alistair wiped his mouth, his lips twisting at the horrible taste. Cupid slapped his arm. "You finished all that? What if it's something bad!?" she shouted at him. Alistair winced at her high volume. "Oh Cupid, the worst thing that could come from something like this, is like, a furry tail or something."
Cupid gave him a dirty look. "We don't know that!"
Alistair put a finger to his lips, shushing her.
"Now, let's wait for it to kick in," he said giddily.
