It was finally the night of the True Heart's Day dance.
Cupid watched as the sun began to set from her window, she smiled and continued doing her hair. The word had passed around, that Ashlynn and Hunter are no longer together. The pressure was too much for Ashlynn, and she chose to end their relationship. Cupid's heart broke as she heard the news. She weren't close with either Ashlynn or Hunter, but deep down, she was rooting for them.
Rooting for heart's way.
But not everything in love ends well.
At least they tried.
She looked at herself in the mirror and shook her head, clearing the bad thoughts away. She stared at herself, up and down, and decided that she was good to go.
Cupid met up with Briar and the other students. They tied several pieces of fabric together, and lowered it from the window. Cupid stepped out of the window and began climbing down. She froze as she lowered herself, and found her facing the back of Headmaster Grimm's chair. Thankfully, Grimm didn't notice, so Cupid quickly slid down the rope that they made, and landed on the ground safely. The others followed her.
They had to walk quite far to get to the destination of the dance, but none of them complained. They were too excited from the thrill of sneaking out. Cupid and the others had to cross a bridge, and walk through the woods, but it was all worth it when they arrived.
The party started, at last.
You could only enter with a specific invitation. Once the people enter, they were immediately greeted by flashing lights, loud music, and other students dancing on the dance floor. It was the biggest party Ever After High had ever seen.
Cupid danced with Blondie. From the corner of her eye, she saw Ashlynn, who made eye contact with Hunter and quickly walked away from him. Cupid stopped dancing, she excused herself from the cheerful Blondie.
She walked up to Ashlynn, who was now sitting down.
Cupid pulled the chair in front of Ashlynn and sat down. "Hey Ashlynn." Ashlynn forced a smile. "Hello, Cupid," she pointed to the people around. "Nice party," she said. Cupid chuckled, she thanked Ashlynn for the compliment. She put her arms on the table and leaned closer. "How are you on this fine evening Ashlynn?"
Ashlynn let out a small laugh. "Um, I'm good, yeah, all good."
Cupid gave her a sympathetic smile. "True Heart's Day," she began. "A day all about following your heart." Ashlynn looked down and nodded. Cupid bit her cheek. "What does your heart say, Ashlynn?" she asked. Ashlynn looked up, looking taken aback. "What?"
A soft sigh escaped Cupid's lips. "You only live once, might as well follow your true heart," she shrugged, "It's True Heart's Day, after all." Her voice was small, but heard. Cupid then stood up. "Have a great night, Ash! Hope you'll stay until the end," she smiled, her voice back to enthusiastic.
"Trust me."
Cupid then walked away, hoping everything works out in love's favour.
She looked around, paying attention to what everyone was doing. She smiled triumphantly. Cupid's eyes found Raven, she was talking to Briar and Hopper. But Raven walked away from them, and Cupid watched her approach Daring Charming, who was talking to three love-sick girls.
Raven gave Daring a tap on the shoulder. "Daring." He continued talking. "Daring!" Raven said louder. He finally heard her, and turned around facing her. "Uh, can we talk, for a minute?" Daring gave her one of his charming smiles. "Of course, yes."
Raven gave him a small smile in return. She scratched her arm. "I wanted to thank you," she looked at Daring. "For the poem you left on my locker?" Raven's eyes glimmered with hope. Daring now had a confused expression. He looked to his right and thought. "I never wrote you a poem." He said.
Raven backed away, surprised. "You didn't?" she asked, surprised. She quickly pulled out a letter. "But it says here," she began reading the letter. "D. Charming." She let out a gasp, realization sank. Her eyes turned, catching Dexter's lonely figure on one of the tables. "Dexter," she whispered to herself.
Cupid watched Raven's eyes on Dexter.
She frowned.
How did she not realize it was Dexter Charming? It was painfully obvious. Well, maybe for Cupid it was. She walked towards Dexter's table. She noticed his pained expression as Raven talked to Daring.
"Hi, Dex.", she greeted. She clasped her hands together and sat beside Dexter. "So..." she scooted closer to him. "Not exactly a happy True Heart's Day, huh?", she said carefully. Dexter shook his head and groaned. "Why does my brother always get the girl?" he stared at his brother with jealous eyes. "It's not fair."
"Maybe," she put her head on her hand. "You should stop thinking so much about your brother, and concentrate on someone else?" she looked at him, a warm smile on her face. Dexter's eyebrows raised. "Uh, who?" he asked. Cupid pointed at Dexter.
"You."
Dexter's frown vanished.
"You spent so much time, comparing yourself to Daring," her finger made its way to his shoulder. "You forget you're great! Just the way you are."
She put her hand on Dexter's shoulder, giving him a comforting smile. Dexter now had a smile of his own. He put his hand on top of Cupid's.
"Really?"
Cupid felt her heart tighten. This poor boy, spent all his life being compared to his older brother, he spent all his life, thinking that he isn't, and will never be good enough.
You're enough for me.
You're perfect.
"Cross my heart," Cupid said softly.
"Thanks Cupid."
They didn't know, that as they were exchanging meaningful words, Raven was looking at them. Thinking that she was too late.
