Cupid was restless the next day.
She walked as she usually would when everyone was back to staring and whispering as she walked. But she knew something was up when their loud whispers didn't just involve her name as she wisped past them. Those whispers held Alistair and Bunny's name in them. Cupid froze in her tracks, taking a look at the two girls who whispered as they looked at her. They quickly stopped, putting their hands to themselves as they made eye contact with the wall beside them. Cupid narrowed her eyes, her eyebrows furrowed.
She could guess by then, what had possibly happened.
And Cupid was back, sitting alone during lunch at the Castletaria.
Alistair was nowhere to be seen.
She let out a heavy sigh as she picked at the mash potato on her plate. Her appetite was gone. Cupid put her fork down as she gave up, standing from the table. As she was walking away, she heard someone whispered.
"I heard she stole her friend's boyfriend."
Cupid stiffened, forcing herself to keep on walking steady.
"They're all saying she used her love powers to bewitch him."
That one made her stop.
Cupid stopped in her tracks, hands fisted by her sides. She slowly turned her head, looking at the figures who spoke. She noticed that they were the Crumb twins, Gus and Helga Crumb. Annoying and chatty little bastards. They hadn't seemed to notice her as she stopped in front of them.
"What did you say?" Cupid asked, her voice quiet but deadly. She slowly turned her body towards them.
They stopped their chatter as they heard Cupid, turning to face her.
She put her hands on their table, leaning her body forwards as her eyes shot them like daggers.
"Come on, talk."
The girl spoke up first, her voice loud and pitched. It was abhorrent.
"We were just saying what everyone in the school's saying about you," Helga said, in a mocking tone, laughing by the end of her sentence.
Cupid tilted her head, glaring. "That I used my gifts to bewitch people?"
They nodded pridefully, "Yeah!" the boy said, "And to manipulate them, which we know is true!"
There was a second of silence, just a second.
Cupid slammed her palms on their table, eliciting a loud bang throughout the whole castletaria. The atmosphere became quiet, all eyes going to them.
"You better be careful with what you say," Cupid whispered, "You don't know anything you're talking about."
They've got no idea.
The two stopped their laughter, eyes wide in fear.
Gus stuttered, "S-she's threatening us!"
Helga slapped her brother's arm, "Careful, or she's going to use her powers on us too!"
The whole castletaria gasped as they saw that interaction.
"How could she!?"
"They're just kids!"
"Now I know it's true-"
Cupid's lips parted in disbelief.
She leaned back, standing as she looked around at everyone in the room. All of them looked at her with fearful and hateful eyes. Cupid shook her head, scoffing to herself, turning as she met all the eyes in the castletaria.
