It felt like a lifetime.
Decades before Cupid finally stood up on wobbly knees, threatening to bring her down to the earth once more. She wiped her wet eyes harshly, turning the knob of the door, stepping out of the cold room.
Her brain couldn't think, her feet simply had one goal.
To get her out.
She bumped into a tall figure.
Looking up, eyes blank.
Psyche looked down at her with solemn eyes, her hands bracing Cupid's shoulders steadily.
"Poor Cupid."
Poor Cupid.
"D-don't say that," Cupid replied.
Psyche's lips pursed into a line, she took her palms away from Cupid. She inhaled slowly. "I've heard about Alice, I know how close you both were," she cleared her throat, "I'm sorry about what happened." Her voice was soft and melodic.
Cupid took her eyes off the ground, lifting them to meet Psyche's. She shook her head, scoffing to herself. "Don't say that to me," she whispered. Her heart shattered, "Think about Alistair," she said as her voice broke. "Think about how he must feel right now." Her tone was desperate, she was desperate.
"I-I need to go see him," she said, suddenly frantic. "I need to go see Alistair."
Her feet moved, ready to break into a run out the door.
A delicate hand stopped her wrist firmly.
Cupid stopped in her tracks.
Her head turned.
"No," Psyche said, her voice barely heard, eyes looking down on Cupid with pity.
Cupid stayed still for a second, looking up at Psyche with confusion. "What do you mean no?" she asked.
A sigh escaped Psyche's lips, she let go of Cupid's wrist.
"The head of jury and Zeus himself saw you in the trial room. They called me right after and expressed their concerns regarding-"
"Regarding what?"
Psyche smiled softly. "You."
Cupid's eyebrows lifted. Psyche took Cupid's hand in her palms, patting gently. "They're concerned about you," she said, her voice soft, "Anyone from a mile away could see that you are currently unwell."
Confusion was still visible in Cupid's expression. "Yes, I am obviously unwell, because someone close to me just passed away, and I really need to go now," she stated, her breathing quick, using everything in her system from not bolting out the door right at that second.
"I'm sorry," Psyche replied, "The gods told me that in your current mental state, it would be unfit if you go back to Ever After High right now and deal with everything at hand, they-" she shook her head, "They don't think it's a good idea at all, and I agree with them, you shouldn't go right now, they even requested that you be moved to Olympia Academy, anywhere else that-"
"What?!" Cupid's eyes widened in bewilderment.
"Don't worry, it's just a suggestion, if you don't want to-"
"-I don't want to," she quickly interjected, her chest heaving.
Psyche inspected her face, giving a slow nod, "...Okay, I understand," she bit her cheek, "But I agree with them, of not letting you go back to that place for the time being, Cupid. It would do you more harm than good, and you have me here, I'll take care of you."
