"Your racing heart is deafening" Xavier smirked as he flexed his fingers, "which of you is willing to meet his maker first" he challenged. They all took a step back the more Xavier moved forward.
"Bear in mind that only one person gets to leave this place alive" his voice roared through the air as he disappeared. Turning around when they heard a crack, "and believe me, it won't be you" he whispered as he snapped another person's neck.
Before the rest of them could take to their heels, Xavier swiftly yanked one heart after the other, brushing past them as they dropped dead.
"Who sent you?" He asked the one he saved for the last, "I can see fear dancing right in front of your eyes" he had deliberately targeted the one who would easily give up the information he needed.
"I've never met him before, I only know he is a vampire of high class" trembling with terror. His eyes bulged the moment he saw Xavier's fangs extended.
"Goodbye!" He sank his teeth on the man's neck, drinking him dry as he held the man writhed in pain in his arms.
The sound of anguish penetrated into Seraphine's ears, she felt pain on her shoulder, weak and spent while laying on the cold hard floor. Trying to recollect the incident which must have led to her position, she touched her eyes which felt sore and itchy at the same time.
She heard something dropped and footsteps approached, "who's there?" She asked weakly, closing her eyes to reduce the soreness.
The familiar arms wrapped around her, she breathed a sigh of relief when Xavier lifted her, "I'm about to whisk you away" informing her, "rest" he spoke softly before taking off.
*********
"How is he?" Xavier asked Diane the moment he settled Seraphine down on a bed in the next room.
Anxious Diane stood, "his wounds are taking time to heal due to the blood loss, he's still unconscious but his breathing is stable. The healer assured us that once his wolf resurfaces, he will be better. How is Seraphine?"
"She's in the next room" Xavier quickly added when he saw the worried lines on Diane's forehead deepened, "she's being checked on to know if she's ok"
Nodding, "Alpha Weinroff was here not quite long. She should still be around somewhere, she asked for you"
"Ok" glancing quickly at his friend one more time, he left and knocked on the other room before entering.
"How is she?" Looking at her horizontal silhouette behind the curtain.
"She had some bruises on her shoulder and a slight discolouration under her eyes, we've applied some ointment on them and she needs to stay off lifting any heavy objects till the shoulder heals"
His eyes caught a dark object on the table, he reached for the broken spectacle.
"Noted, i'll be right back"
"I need your coachman to take this to Herbert" Xavier told Daniel who came barreling into the healing bay. His face was marred with concern, he was clearly in the middle of something, his askew trouser, buttons in the wrong holes and messy hair was enough to hint the activity he was involved in.
"Diane was just telling me about Seraphine, how is she? how did it happened? Who would want to harm Francis?"
"She's inside" Xavier extended the spectacle to him, "I need him to find me a replica of this, as soon as possible."
Alpha Weinroff strode towards him, he could feel the rage radiating from her, "we need to talk, now!" Walking past him to look for an empty room with a good wall.
"As expected" he murmured.
Xavier had not closed the door fully when Alpha Weinroff spoke, "who the hell is Knox's partner?" Her voice rose, "according to what you explained, I can conclude that the person is the one who tried to end one of my family members"
"Exactly the conclusion I arrive at. Unfortunately, the men who attacked him weren't willing to give up his name, except his a vampire and of high status. So I've come up with a new plan of identifying him" he could see the angry glints in her eyes repressing.
"And how are you going to do that?" Alpha Weinroff relied more on Xavier's investigation than the Upper House'. He seemed to be swifter in dealing with something like this, although she knew the boy is hidding something.
"The perfect place to quickly identify him has arrived. Do be assured that I will not leave any stone unturned till whoever attacked Francis is captured" lifting am unwavering gaze at the formidable alpha.
"If this is not settled within a week, I'll have to retaliate"
"I'll need you to do something for me though"
"What?"
After Xavier explained what she wanted her to do, he checked on his friend who had regained a little colour before entering Seraphine's room again.
She looked different without her spectacle on, the dark discolouration around her eyes shone, due to the ointment. Studying her peaceful sleep, he brushed away some strands of hair which might be disturbing her. His eyes refused to look away from the frail girl whose eye socket is going to house the legendary Eyes.
He lost track of time as he sat on the chair close to the window, thinking about Seraphine and the likely ordeal she might face if words gets out about her eyes.
The loud cry of Felicity as she rushed in, followed by Mr. Pawn brought him back to the present.
"Seraphine" Felicity shook her friend's body.
Mr. Pawn pulled her away, "easy there, you need to calm down", he patted her shoulder, comforting her to stop crying.
Turning to the quiet vampire, "Mr. Xavier, thank you for notifying us" the old man stood in front of him with an outstretched hand for a handshake, "I had thought she decided to sleep over at Felicity's place until one of your servants showed up"
"Thank you" Felicity added in the middle of sniffling her tears.
"I knew she was in good hands, which was why I convince Felicity to wait till the cock crows, when we know it's safer to get a carriage"
"Cock crows?" Xavier stared at the man, he quickly checked his watch to confirm before looking outside, seeing that the night had birthed a new dawn.
Xavier was too stunned to hear what Mr. Pawn might be saying, he just stood rigid by the window. Lost of words! Never had there been a time when he hadn't felt the presence of Mr. Hollow before.
He had been too involved in what was going on, he had not seen Mr. Hollow appeared neither did he feel any pain anywhere.
Could Seraphine had something to do with it?
