"What! Lord Knox is dead?"
"The idiots I instructed to keep him safe while I retrieve the box didn't do a good job"
Lord Knox had mysteriously turned up dead before he could be locked up, not to talk of being questioned. The man had given up the ghost in the carriage.
"Since the only way to convince you that neither I or my eyes have nothing to do with the egg, I might as well show you"
Seraphine opened the box once again, fixing her gaze on it, seconds went by and nothing happened. She looked at Xavier, "see, I told you"
Xavier had thought long and hard about Seraphine's eyes during the night, he had even gone as far seeking Mr. Hollow's help. He had later concluded on a theory, although, he needed as much proof as he could, "do you remember the books we saw at Lord Knox's hidden room?"
Puzzled by the sudden change of topic, "I'm not sure but they're mostly historical books, why?"
"Can you think of a particular one?" He faced the woman who seemed to had lowered her guard around her, she had not put her spectacle back on.
"There were stories of legends like Ares, Apollo and Phemerah"
"I'm sure you've heard so many stories about Phemerah"
"Yes" watching as Xavier turned to her once again with his hand in his pocket.
"I can wager all that I have that you would be the bearer of Phemerah's Eyes"
Seraphine threw her head back in a feat of laughter, "I never knew you're this amusing, Mr. Orsini, what have you been smoking?"
"No one knows which creature would get the eyes but there have been speculations that the bearer would be between a human or demon. How else would you explain the things only you can see? Has there been a case whereby you could see perfectly well in the dark without the aid of light"
Her smile falter, an action which Xavier had seen before she quickly masked it and retorted, "not only me, Lord Knox could see it too"
"Then why is your heart pounding like you were caught in a lie?"
She swallowed, using the napkin to dry her sweaty palm "if your claim was true, then Lord Knox shouldn't have been able to see it"
"We don't know yet if he could also see the memories as you did and believe me, there are ways he could've been able to see those things with the help of a talented witch"
"So how come I'm unable to see the memories right now" she raised one of the eggs high, putting her head at different angles as she gazed at it.
"The two times I've witnessed your eyes in action, they were in a moment of anger, it could mean it has something to do with your emotion, I don't think it was only when you're angry alone"
Nodding in agreement since everything he uttered sounded logical, she recalled the same thing, deeply in thought, she snapped back when Xavier spoke, "Lord Knox seemed to have an extended research and books on Phemerah, what do you say we 'burrow' some of them so you can read more on what you are capable of?"
She still wasn't convinced that she could be the bearer of Phemerah's eyes. It was the most ridiculous and also the most logical answer for every question she had no explanation for.
"How did you know I could see in the dark?"
Instead, he responded, "while the investigation of Knox's death is ongoing, we need to identify his partner but first, it's polite to pay a condolence visit to the family, shall we?
