"Where are you off to?" Diane heard her mother asked Daniel as she prepared to visit The Pawn. She hadn't seen Seraphine for days. She had been sulking in her room since two nights ago.

Wishing to lift her darkened mood by going to town to chart with her friends, she left the dinning table and heard his twin's response.

"I'm going to check on Xavier's workers at his factory. He sent words to me early this morning to oversee the new products."

Curious to know his whereabouts, "where is he?"

"His attention is needed at his other factory out of town, he had to travel early today" Daniel raised his head after tying his boots, "where are you going?"

"To town, I need to feel the sun on my body"

Their mother looked at her, "good for you, you've been cooped up in your bedchamber for too long" she narrowed her eyes at her daughter, "is it suitors problem? Causing dark circles around your eyes"

Daniel scoffed, "I think not. she doesn't have the heart for romance, perhaps something else" backing away to create more distance between them to avoid getting hit, "Diane is too unromantic to fall in love"

Pretending to not hear her mother, she faced her twin, ignoring his nasty comments, "can I ride with you to town?"

Daniel wouldn't have batted an eye lash, if she had just entered his carriage without prior notice, he took a second look at his sister, "did you just ask if you could ride with me?" Turning to their mother, he whispered, "I think something is wrong"

"You know I can hear you, don't you" walking briskly out of the room, "if you don't come out in three seconds, I'll leave without you"

With a scrutinised gaze fixed at his sister, wondering who her love interest could be while Diane focused out the carriage in deep thought, oblivious to what was really going on outside.

Her heart sunk lower when she recalled her discussion with Francis. She had jettisoned her shyness for a while and taken the courage to tell him about her feelings. Francis had been a gentleman in declining her politely with the significant reason of waiting for his mate.

Not that she wasn't conversant with the culture of the wolves and how important a mate is to them but that had not mattered to her. She had at first erased the thought of revealing her feelings to him, solely because she knew he would find his mate one day.

After a long thought, she then decided to tell him about her feelings, knowing full well that she might be rejected or if they both start anything when his mate comes, his feelings will change, which would be devastating.

Diane puffed out a long sigh when they got into town and sighted a male and a female apparently on a date, with their beaming faces and giggling sound.

"Who is this person you're pinning for? How dare he! Give me his name so I can call him to a duel" with all seriousness, he asked, 'is he someone I know?"

"Francis?"

"Xavier?"

The carriage stopped in front of The Pawn, "I'll see you later" Diane waved at Felicity across the street, telling her to come over when she was less busy.

Seraphine yawned for the countless time just that morning, drawing the attention of the old man once again.

"What were you doing during the night if not sleeping? I can't count the number of time you've opened that wide mouth of yours today"

"Could you be polite towards me just for once" She scowled at him, "it's too early a morning to pass insult"

Scoffing, "I'll be polite when I want to. New customers would think yawning was part of the things we exchange aside from money whenever they come to pawn. You've been yawning in the presence of each customer" spreading the paper wider to read what was going on around town.

Letting out a frustrated breath, "could you take your evening stroll  now, as in, right this morning?" She smiled sweetly at the man, wanting to get rid of him.

She needed her peace to think more about what happened between her and Xavier the night before, despite being the only think she thought about through out the night. She had not had a wink of sleep after getting out of her wet cloth. All she could think about was his mouth on her neck.

Instinctively, she stroked the exact surface where his mouth had been, blood rushed through her cheek and a pleasurable feeling settled in her stomach, imagining his mouth on the other part of her body.

She had been anticipating the vampire's presence, she felt giddy just by thinking about him. The sound of the bell drew her gaze to the door and Diane strolled in.

She greeted the old man who looked at both ladies, "seems there's a viral sickness around town, causing dark circles among females" he muttered before stepping out.

"What happened to your eyes?" They both asked each other in unison.

Allowing Diane to go first as they chuckled, "I had quite a rough and sleepless nights, you?"

Flashing her teeth as wide as she could, "same here"

"I doubt that"

Diane who had become more familiar with the shop went straight to the kitchenette to prepare a jug of warm tea for herself. She joined her friend at the counter, after the last customer left.

"I've never seen you wear a scarf around your neck before, I guess the weather is that cold"

She nodded happily because how else would she explain that the reason for the scarf had nothing to do with the condition of the weather but everything to do the the red blotch on her neck due to a certain someone sucking at it?

Both ladies were so lost in their thoughts that they didn't hear Felicity enter till she clapped, jolting them back to reality.

"Did you both rub something around your eyes as some sort of bonding stage or its the normal sign of a sleepless night" pointing at Diane, "yours is a little bit too much though"

"And where did you see that ridiculous scarf with hideous pattern on it?" Eyeing the piece of clothes up and down with raised eyebrows.

"You're the only one seeing the hideous part, it seemed really nice to me and Diane" adjusting the scarf to ensure it was in place.

"If you say so" pouring a cup of tea for herself, "what's with your eyes?"

"Long story" Diane said, meaning she wasn't going to say further, Felicity respected her wish.

"I just couldn't sleep" Seraphine lied.

Dismissing her reason as quickly as Seraphine amswered, with a shrug, Felicity as the usual talkative among the three did most of the talking.

Soon, they engaged in several fits of laughter, Seraphine's smile faltered when Diane mentioned that Xavier travelled, she had been discretely looking at all the carriages that passed, hoping to see a familiar one.

Her mood went down, "are you all right?" Diane asked.

"Oh, I'm fine" She muttered, even though she wasn't.
