Seraphine was too distraught to think of any plan, she had thought she would be able to see Xavier who always had a plan, so she hadn't bothered with forming any.

They had deliberately slowed their carriage a little bit far from the shelter to make them inconspicuous.

"I have no plan" she threw her hands up helplessly, "my mind have been occupied with saving the poor creatures"

"From what?"

"I thought you knew why I have to come here"

"No, I only knew I have to have a carriage waiting for someone who would desperately need my help"

Seraphine looked at the witch with amazement, "you mean you didn't even know who you would be waiting for?"

Annaliese shook her head, "and if you want me to help, then you need to tell me what is going on"

Leaving out the details, she narrated how she witnessed the vile behaviour going on in the dog shelter through Phoenix' eyes. Annaliese mirrored the same horrified expression she had on when she saw the dogs on stage.

"I'll save the question of who Phoenix is for later, we need to think of how busy to rescue the dogs, but first, let's check if they have started" Annaliese pulled her out of the carriage.

She linked their hands together, "whatever happens, do not let go of my hands" she warned, "I'll use a cloaking spell to allow us move without being seen" Seraphine nodded in understanding.

Tightening her fingers around the witch, they moved as quiet and swift as possible, making sure they don't walk too close to the masked visitors.

Bidding their time, they slipped in while the bodyguard was asking the next guest to show their pass. She led the way to the door she suspected the dogs were kept. Passing by the theatre room, they had a glimpse of the place to see that the audience were still settling down.

A light sound of feet walking towards them made them take cover at the dark corner. Seraphine saw Theo tiptoed around the door, he seemed to be trying to peep behind the door, wanting to see what was going on.

"Who's there" a gruff voice sounded. The two women panicked when Theo also took cover at exactly where they hid. The scrawny boy must have noticed something was wrong when he couldn't see anything but felt the space was occupied. Before he could give them away by his laboured breathing, Annaliese covered his mouth.

"I can keep him quiet" Seraphine whispered to Annaliese, who unlinked their fingers. Theo calmed down a little when he recognised Seraphine.

"What are you doing here?" He whispered.

"Why are you peeping through the door like you were not supposed to be there in the first place?" Seraphine retorted. She could swear that Theo had a similar agenda with theirs.

"Where is master Xavier?" He replied instead, looking intently at Annaliese, "he instructed me to discreetly find out what was going on behind close door"

Reminded of her conversation with Herbert, she snapped, "don't know"

The gruff voice spoke again, "who's there?" Soon after, they heard the sound of heavy feet as it drew near.

Annaliese muttered under her breath, before linking their three hands together, Seraphine used the other hand to place a finger on  her lips to tell Theo to keep quiet.

Several minutes later, seeing that the coast was clear, Theo led them to the less frequented part of the building, where Seraphine narrated what was going on.

Filled with horror, "oh dear Lord! Poor animals!" He folded his hands on his chest, his eyes full of pity, "how did you even know more than I do?"

"I think what's more important now is looking for a way to rescue the dogs" she responded.
