Seraphine could hear muffled voices, some of which belonged to Felicity, Mr. Pawn, and Diane.
As her eyes fluttered opened, she shut it immediately, the rush of blinding light in her eyes shot a pang of headache. They were probably at the other side of the room, seeing how they didn't move closer, maybe they didn't know she was awake.
Gently this time, she opened her eyes to adjust to the bright light, she reached for the spectacle beside her and put it on. The rigid handle explained why she thought it looked different, it is different from the one she used.
She guessed the previous one didn't survive the impart of her fall. Remembering the uncomfortable position she was lying on, she shifted and felt a little pain on her shoulder.
"She's awake" Xavier mentioned before several feet rushed towards her, the faster one belonging to Felicity who almost collided with her shoulder if not for Xavier who stopped her.
Slightly ashamed of her thoughtlessness, Felicity apologized in between her sob as Seraphine carefully with one hand summoned her friend for a hug, "I'm ok" she cooed in a raspy voice.
"How is Francis?" Her heart pounded with dread to hear their response.
"He's fine" Diane replied happily
"Oh thank God" she sighed with relief.
The old man observed her, "how are you feeling?"
Grateful for providing her with a new spectacle, "I'm fine, thank you for this" lightly tapping her spectacle.
"Not my doing" he grinned and subtly tilted his head where Xavier stood. The vampire had been distant ever since he announced that she was conscious. How did he even know that I was awake? He must have heard when I shifted, she thought.
Sending him an appreciative smile for his thoughtfulness but he was just looking blankly at her, she heard Diane spoke instead.
"How is your shoulder?"
Seraphine glanced at her shoulder, trying to see if she could see the extent of her wound, "really better than I thought"
"The salve Lord Witcharoft's daughter applied must have been quite effective" Daniel spoke.
Taken aback, "she was here?"
As Diane wanted to reply, a soft knock was heard before the door opened. In came the current subject of discussion, the redhead witch, her cool expression somehow suit her face, Seraphine thought. She looked mysterious and regal at the same time, "how are you feeling?"
Not sure of how to respond, she stuttered and nodded instead. Willing herself to speak, "I heard you applied a special salve on it, thank you" smiling politely at her.
"It's nothing. It was meant to be used" she replied, her tiny voice was soothing to the ears.
"Can she go home now?" Xavier asked as soon as the healer entered.
"Of course, she can. The salve is just to dull your pain, not to fully heal you" she then turned to Seraphine, "just be careful with carrying heavy object until you're fully healed" she warned.
"I'll like to see Francis before I leave" she turned to Xavier. He took her hand in his and carefully assisted her up.
"We'll wait here for you. The room is already packed with his pack members" Daniel balanced himself on the bed.
"Is everything all right" Seraphine asked Xavier who seemed to have gone back to his one word answering habit, not that he had fully jettisoned the habit before, "you looked rather distant, despite having you here with us"
Xavier only shrugged as they advanced into Francis' room. The only person inside aside from Francis was a middle aged woman, who shared a slight resemblance with him. She broke into an appreciative smile as she took Seraphine in for a hug.
Seraphine greettdcthe middle aged woman in Francis' room
"You must be Seraphine, thank you for saving Francis"
Seraphine winced a little, the woman might looked old but she definitely had a strong bone. The aura which radiated from her suggested her to be a high ranking person in the wolf community.
As if Xavier could read her mind, "Seraphine, this is Alpha Weinroff, Francis' aunt."
"Xavier told me you stumbled upon Knox's evil creatures" holding on to her hands, "thank you. You've made it possible to track who was behind the malicious activity against the werewolves "
She returned the Alpha's warm smile, her eyes landed on Francis that was sleeping peacefully, "how is he?"
"The worst phase is over, not quite long, he asked after you before falling back to sleep"
All scars of wound had cleared, one would have thought he was just taking a nap if not for his days old beard. Glad to see him again, she pulled Xavier's sleeve to let him know she was ready to leave.
"I'll see you next time alpha Weinroff, under a better circumstance I hope" she politely spoke.
"Sooner than you think, dear" Puzzled by her response but she decided to let it go.
"What happened to the men who attacked him?" She asked as soon as they were alone in the corridor.
"With their maker, I presume"
"You killed them?" Full of disbelief.
"Either that or allow them live to tell whoever sent them what you are"
"But couldn't you have looked for another means instead of taking their lives?" Irritated at how unbothered he looked after ending people's lives. Not that the men were innocent but he ought to at least show a remorse or sympathy for taking a life, not to talk of several lives.
Xavier snorted, "what better means who that have been?" He shook his head in amusement, "I can see you still don't understand the ways of the world, you really have a long way to go"
Not in the mood to get into an argument with him, she wished to know what exactly happened to her, the last thing she remembered was trying to protect Francis from being stabbed.
"Could you tell me exactly what you saw when you first arrived?" Referring to the incident.
"I could but not here" he saw her winced a little, "rest for today and I'll tell you everything you need to know tomorrow"

The Demon King analysed what he saw while roaming the town the day before. He had embarked on wandering round the town in disguise when he saw Xavier Orsini on a rampage. Dying to know what could have ticked off the cold and ruthless vampire, he hid behind a tree far away an saw the pawnshop lady lying on the ground.
After watching as Xavier ended the last man's life by drinking him dry and carrying the unconscious girl away, he ran to one of the corpses, he needed to know why they were killed.
He brought out the portion from his pocket, dropping a little amount in his mouth, just enought to talk for few seconds before totally give up the ghost.
"Why were you killed?" Damien immediately asked the half dead man.
"Because of Francis" the croaked voice answered. All other part of his body were dead except the mouth which will soon go back to being dead along with the others.
So Francis was hurt, interesting!
"Why did you hurt him?"
"We were ordered to"
Before he could ask who sent them, the mouth went limped again. Furious that he couldn't get all his answers before the power of the magic waned, he slammed the lifeless body back down.
Damien got more eager to know why anyone would attack Francis, who shared a close relationship with the alpha of the Weinroff pack. Could it be power struggle amongst the werewolves or an external attack. Pondering on the thought, he went his way, looking for who would need his help.
