Tony and Nova had spent the day setting up for the party, but for the most part Jarvis had it handled. Deliveries had kept arriving and Nova felt that she was the only one actually working. Tony just sat around on the couch, occasionally getting up when Nova yelled at him to do so.
The time had neared the party and Nova decided to get ready. She went to her room and put on a silk blue cocktail dress she had picked out nights before. When she got out of her room, Natasha and Bruce had already arrived. Nova went to greet them.
"Hey gorgeous." Nat complimented as she hugged Nova.
"Speak for yourself." Nova replied. Bruce gave her an awkward wave, "Dad's in his lab, you know if you wanna go down there," Nova lowered her voice, "Kiss a little." Bruce's eyes widened. Nat let out a shocked laugh.
"I wouldn't want to do that to Pepper." He joked in his quiet tone.
"Oh, so that's the only thing stopping you?" Natasha joked. Bruce waved her off and walked away smiling.
Just then the elevator opened and out walked a joyful Steve. He had a fresh bottle of wine in his hand. Nova smiled big and walked towards him. He saw her coming and smiled shyly.
"I don't know how parties work in this day and age, but I got this." He handed Nova the bottle.
"It's great, Steve. Thanks." They heavily smiled at each other for a moment. Until Nova awkwardly held up the bottle insinuating that she was going to go and place the bottle somewhere.
She turned around and immediately cursed herself. She saw Natasha laughing at her. Nova went up to Nat. "Well that looked like it went well." She teased.
"I have no clue what that was."
"You should ask him out." She said casually.
"What? Steve? No," She said dragging out the 'oo' as if she considered it. "Yeah no no, Steve is um, no."
"What? you guys are cute." Nat commented.
"I mean I may have had a small crush on him before, but didn't everyone? He's Captain America. But date him? No!" She clarified.
"Well, I think he likes you too." Natasha smirked while sipping a drink.
"What? Really? No! Really?" Nova said like a little schoolgirl.
"You sure that crush went away?" Natasha said slyly, and walked away. Nova felt confused, did she like Steve? But no, she can't be with him, it would never work out in their line of work. Or maybe it will? No, no! But...maybe? No! Stop it! She wanted to kill Natasha.

As the night progressed, Laughter and lively conversations echoed throughout the room as friends caught up and strangers became fast friends. Nova separated herself from a group of socialites when she saw Sam walk in.
"This party just got a whole lot worse." She joked as she hugged Sam.
"Well, it is your party. Oh no wait, your billionaire dad's party." He teased.
Nova saw Steve walking up from the corner of her eye, she froze, she felt strange around him ever since that talk with Nat. Sam hugged Steve. When they separated, Steve's eyes landed on Nova, which she noticed, and panicked.
"Hey, um, why don't you tell Sam here about our mission, while I, uh, look for," She looked around, her eyes landed on the drink she had in her hand, "For some ice." She embarrassingly finished, and walked away.
Sam and Steve looked at each other perplexed, "What's with her?" Sam asked Steve.
"She was fine a minute ago."
Sam smiled wide, "Oh, I think I know what's going on."
"What?" Steve desperately inquired.
Sam smirked and walked away shaking his head, Steve looked back at him, "What?" He repeated obliviously.
Nova felt foolish. She spotted Maria, Rhodey, Tony and Thor in front of the bar and decided to go to them. As she neared them, she heard Rhodey say, "Why do I even talk to you guys? Everywhere else that story kills."
"Oh no, is he telling his 'boom you lookin for this?' story?" She said mimicking Rhodey, making him facepalm. Tony and Thor nodded at her.
"That's the whole story?" Thor asked.
"Yeah, it's a War Machine story." Rhodey said.
"Well, it's very good then." Thor laughs. "It's impressive."
Nova walked up to stand next to Maria, pouring herself a drink at the bar. Maria surveyed her, "Hey, I noticed the other day. Your ears perked up at the mention of the twins." She said.
Nova let out a chuckle, "Yeah they probably did. It was intriguing of course, knowing there were more like me."
"Well, I just hope you remember, you know, they're not our side."
"Yeah, I know. I wish they were, it would've been nice, having someone who understood." Nova said, looking down at the drink in her hand.
