Chapter 32: Together

Nova flew up, heavy blue aura surrounding her. She spotted Steve struggling and flew to him. "Hey, Rogers." She smirked.

He looked back at her, "Nova you're—glowing." He said as he stared at her fascinated.

She smiled, and used her powers to hold up 4 droids all at once, tearing them apart. Steve gave her an impressed look. They were joined in the fight by Thor and Nat.

Ultron arrived and squinted at Thor, "Thor, you are bothering me." He said as he took Thor away.

"Oh he is really getting on my nerves." Nova said as she took off after Ultron and Thor.

Nova caught up to the both in time, Ultron had picked up a pillar to throw at Thor, she used her powers to hold it away and throw it back at Ultron. "God! When will you just leave me alone!" He said as he lunged towards Nova, but she successfully dodged him, Thor threw his hammer at Ultron, keeping him down for a moment. She nodded at Thor and headed towards Steve and Nat.

Some of the droids had died down, Steve was helping civilians to safety. "The next wave's gonna hit any minute. What have you got, Stark?" Steve asked.

"Well, nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear." Tony spoke through the comms.

Nova landed in front of Steve. They gave each other a worried look, "I asked for a solution, not an escape plan."

"Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're going to have to make a choice." Tony said.

Steve and Nova walked up to Nat and stared down the edge of the flying city of Sokovia. "Cap, these people are going nowhere. If Stark finds a way to blow this rock..."

"Not 'til everyone's safe." Steve asserted.

"Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there." Nat said.

"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it." Steve said stubbornly.

"I didn't say we should leave." Nat glanced at Nova and Steve, "There's worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?" She said solemnly.

"There has to be another way, some sort of Godsend." Nova said lowly.

Suddenly Fury's voice ringed through the comms, "You sure you're not a witch, young Stark?"

A shield Hellicarrier emerged in-front of the three, they looked at it in disbelief. "Nice, right? I pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but she'll do."

Nova slightly jumped up in excitement, a huge smile plastered to her face. Steve gazed at her affectionately. "Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve said.

"Oh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?"

Pietro walked up in-front of them, amazed by the view. Nova sparked a smile at him, "Take a good look, speedy."

"This is SHIELD?" He asked in bewilderment.

"This is what SHIELD's supposed to be." Steve added.

"This is not so bad." Pietro said.

Nova looked up at the sky to see Rhodey. She flew up next to him enthusiastically. "Now this is gonna be a good story." Rhodey exclaimed.

"Oh yeah, I can already imagine it, 'So I went up to Ultron, and I was like Boom! you lookin' for this?" She teased.

They were joined by Tony, "Yeah, if he lives to tell it."

"You don't think I can hold my own?" Rhodey asked offended.

"We get through this, I'll hold your own." Tony joked.

"Gross dad!" Nova said.

"Honey, you're at the adult table now, you're gonna have to deal with this."

Tony and Nova joined the rest of the avengers below a dismantled monument. Thor hollered at Ultron, "Is that the best you can do?!"

In reply, Ultron brought out his army of droids. "You had to ask." Steve remarked.

"This is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?" Ultron questioned.

"Like the old man said." Tony paused to look at Steve, "Together."

Droids surrounded The Avengers, and they fought back determinedly. It was as if droids were flooding the whole place. But they all successfully defeated them. Vision took on ultron, eventually joined by Tony, Thor and Nova. They continuously shot Ultron with as much energy as they could. The combined power was enough to dismantled the vibranium, he stood up, half destroyed, "You know, with the benefit of hindsight-" Ultron began, The Hulk punched knocking him far away before he could finish his sentence.

The droids were trying to leave the city, Nova flew up along with Vision and Rhodey, dismantling them mid air, preventing them from leaving.

The Avengers then hurried and helped people get on lifeboats. Suddenly, Ultron came up over everyone on a jet, viscously shooting at them. Everyone was taken by surprise, unable to defend themselves.

Suddenly, there was silence. Nova stood mid-air, she squinted her eyes, and saw Pietro standing in front of Clint, who was holding a boy. But then Pietro fell to the ground. Nova was concerned, she flew towards him. The closer she got to him, she saw the bullet marks on his body. She hoped it wasn't true, but as she landed in front of him she realised it was.

Tears welded up in her eyes, she didn't know what to do or say. He was just a kid. The Avengers all hurried towards Pietro. Clint knelt down beside Pietro, his face covered with guilt and loss. Pietro was picked up and placed on one of the lifeboats.

A few moments later, the City began to fall. Tony flew down under it, Nova spotted him, she followed after him. He stood under the core and fired a powerful blast on it, Nova appeared behind him, wasting no time and joining it. He looked back at her, she nodded at him. "Thor, on my mark." Tony said. "Now!"

Thor brought on a blast of lightning, he hit his hammer on the vibranium core, destroying the whole city into pieces, which fell into the ocean, Tony and Nova flew dodging the pieces of earth. Nova created a force field around her and Tony to prevent them from getting hit.

Tony and Nova landed on the shield hellicarrier. "Good work, kid." He took off his helmet and gave her an infectious smile.

"I'm almost 24 dad I think you can stop calling me a kid now." She rolled her eyes.

"Nope, I met you 5 years ago, so to me you're basically 5." She chuckled. Tony put his arm around her and they walked inside.
