Chapter 8: Sacrifice

From the roof Clint and Nova spot Natasha, riding on a chitauri chariot. Behind her, Loki shooting at her.

"I've seen a lot today." Nova said eyeing Nat.

"Nat, what are you doing?" Clint said into his com.

"Uh, a little help." Nat requested.

Hawkeye pulls the trigger twice, locking down on Loki, smirking, "I've got him." The arrow travels to Loki's side. Like a cat, Loki grabs it and smiles in a 'nice try' way. Till it blows up in his face, quite literally.

Nat looks down and jumps, landing on the roof of the stark tower, rolling to the edge.
"I'm gonna fly up to Nat, cause you know, I can do that now." She told Clint. He smiled and nodded.

She flew up to the tower. There Loki laid on the ground till he was kicked by the Hulk. He furiously stood up and yelled, "ENOUGH! YOU ARE, ALL OF YOU ARE BENEATH ME! I AM A GOD, YOU DULL CREATURE, AND I WILL NOT BE BULLIED-"

He was interrupted by Hulk picking him up and smashing him on the floor repeatedly, Nova watched, a bit amused. "Puny god," The hulk remarked as he walked away.

Nova walked up to a whimpering Loki, looked down at him and smiled, "Ouch." She said.

She flew up to the roof, Dr Selvig was back to his senses, laying right on the edge, covered in guilt.

"Loki's scepter, the energy...the Tesseract can't fight. You can't protect against yourself." He said.

"It's not your fault. You didn't know what you were doing." Nat comforted him.

"Well, actually I think I did. I built in a safety to cut the power source." He said.

"Loki's scepter." Nova said.

"It might be able to close the portal. Selvig looks down. He sees a gold gleam."And I'm looking right at it."

"We can close it!" Nat said through the coms."

"Do it!" Cap replied.

"No wait!" Tony interrupted. "I got a nuke coming in, It's gonna blow in less than a minute."

"What?" Nova screamed.

"And I know just where to put it." Tony said.

"Tony! What are you about to do?" She shouts knowing well enough. Tony doesn't reply.

"Stark, you know that's a one way trip?" Steve said.

Nova leaves Nat, and flies down to the ground next to Thor and Steve. "STEVE! YOU HAVE TO STOP HIM!"

Steve looked at her sympathetically, he didn't say anything, he couldn't stop him. Nova looks up at the sky, tears welding up in her eyes. Tony flew higher and higher up the city. "Nova, I don't say this often, even though I should, Love you kid." He said through the coms. As he disappeared into space and the communications in his suit died down.

Cap took Nova into her arms. Suddenly, all of the Chitauri Soldiers and Leviathans start to shake, then keel over and die. The avengers looked up at the portal with a glimmer of hope.

"Come on, Stark." Nat whispered.

"Close it." Cap said to Nat through the coms. He knew what had to be done, after all he was nothing but a soldier.

Nova had her eyes close shut and her face against Cap's chest, not wanting to look up at the Sky. By some miracle, Stark comes crashing right back down to earth.

"Nova! Look up!" Steve says excitedly.

Nova looks up, and smiles. But it's not over yet, he keeps falling, and falling.
"He's not slowing down!" Thor said. Nova knew what to do. She flew up the sky, ready to catch her dad. But just as she was about to do it, Hulk appeared and snagged Tony out of the air, both crashing and sliding down a building.

He sets him down on the bridge infront of Thor, Steve and Nova. Tony was unconscious. Nova sat by him. "Tony! Wake up! Tony!" He didn't budge. She started crying, and let out a little "Dad."

The hulk had had enough. He furiously yelled. Tony woke up in a heartbeat, almost terrified. "What the hell?" Nova smiled. "Please tell me nobody kissed me." Nova laughed and hugged him. Tony hugged her back. Steve and Thor smiled.

"We won." Steve declared.

"Alright, hey... Good job guys, Let's just not come in tomorrow, let's just take a day. Have you ever tried a shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it." Nova frowned at him.

"Way to ruin a moment, Dad."

"Dad? Oh. Right that's me."

Thor looked up at the Stark tower, "We're not finished yet."

There was silence, which of course Tony broke. "And then Shawarma after."
