Chapter 48: Let the games begin

Nova, Tony and Rhodey watch from above as Steve makes his way to a chopper, Tony shoots an electro disabler at it, Steve looks up at the direction it came from, it's their cue to descend to the ground.

"Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport. Don't you think that's weird?" Tony jokes.

"Definitely weird." Rhodey adds.

"Hear me out, Tony. That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this." Steve tries to explain.

Just then, T'challa leaps over a truck. Steve looks at him, "Your highness." he nods.

"Anyway, Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?" Tony asked.

"You're after the wrong guy." Steve tried.

"Your judgment is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday." Tony said, referring to Bucky.

This irked Nova, she frowned at him, "Come on, that wasn't him." she said.

"Who's side are you on?" Tony looked at her.

"I don't wanna be on either." she mumbled to herself and rolled her eyes.

"There are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't." he affirmed.

Nat appeared, "Steve...you know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?" she asked cautiously. Steve trailed off for a moment, as if he was considering his options.

"All right, I've run out of patience." Tony abruptly said, "Underoos!" he shouted.

A web was shot at Cap's and it was pulled away from him. He got caught off guard and his hands got webbed together. Peter fell out of the sky and landed on top of a vehicle, with the shield in his hands. Nova knew he was probably going insane behind that mask at that moment.

"Nice job kid!" Tony said.

"Thanks. Well, I could've stuck the landing a little better." his voice squeaked through, he began to ramble, "It's just the new suit...Well, it's nothing, Mr. Stark. It's--it's perfect. Thank you."

"Yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation." Tony said.

Peter kept on rambling, "Okay. Cap...Captain. Big fan, I'm Spider-Man."

Nova felt embarrassed, "Okay Peter!" he kept going on, "Pete!" she firmly said, finally shutting him up.

"You've been busy?" Steve commented.

Tony furiously began, "And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint. 'Rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep..." he stammered, "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."

"You did that when you signed." Steve said.

"We were trying to do the right thing." Nova firmly intervened.

"Yeah well, this is me trying to do the right thing." Steve argued.

"Come on, Steve. Don't." she slightly pleaded.

Steve lowered his head in guilt not wanting to look Nova in the eye, Nova's gaze lingered on him. "Lang, now." he said lowly into his coms.

Suddenly, something appeared out of what seemed like thin air, uppercutted Peter. A man dressed in a red suit appeared in front of him, catching everyone off guard. He retrieved cap's shield and handed it to him.

"Is this a wizard?" Nova asked.

The fight had begun. "Alright, there's two on the parking deck. One of them's Maximoff, I'm gonna grab her. Nova you go after Wilson and Barnes, and look out for Peter. Rhodey, you want to take Cap?" Tony ordered.

Nova flew up, "Great. I'm on babysitting duty."

Peter followed her as she entered into the terminal, breaking the glass by throwing an energy pulse at it.

"Hey! The gang's all here!" She said as she descended onto the ground.

Sam looked at Peter, "What is that?"

"He's an intern. He's spider-man." she said, proudly.

Sam made a disgusted face, "Everyone's got a gimmick now!"

Nova frowned, "Hey! Be nice to him, it's his first day." she said.

She then began to shoot pulses at him. Which he dodged by deploying his wings and flying up in the air, she flew after him. She created a forcefield in front of him, causing him to bump into it with constant velocity, he fell onto the ground, "Pete! I need some webbing here!" She held Sam in a force lock on the ground so he didn't move.

Sam struggled to break out of it, "I can't believe this is happening!" he complained in frustration.

"Oh, sorry is this too emasculating for you?" she joked.

"Not this! All of...this. A few months ago we were a team, we were a family." he said sombrely.

Nova lowered her gaze, she felt sick to her stomach. "I'm sorry."

Suddenly she got knocked out by RedWing. She fell to the ground, Sam flew away. Nova got up furiously. "ASSHOLE!" she screamed.

Nova and Peter went back to the ground where all the members of Steve's team were heading, they were making their way to a jet, they all assembled and ran towards it, till vision appeared. He burned their track with the stone in his head.

"Captain Rogers. I know you believe what you're doing is right. But for the collective good you must surrender now." he said wisely.

Tony's team arrived. Cap's team looked conflicted. "What do we do, Cap?" Sam asked.

"We fight." Cap said determinedly.

The two teams began to head towards each other, "They're not stopping." Peter said nervously.

"Neither are we."

All of them began to sprint towards each other, the speed increased, Nova and Sam flew towards each other, Nova more furious than the latter.

She began to combat him. She once again had him in a force lock. "Nova, for what it's worth, I did mean what I said." he said.

She looked at him, her eyes drooped, "Yeah?" she looked to her right, spotting redwing, she grabbed it using her powers and lunged it at Sam, causing him to fall to the ground. "You stay there this time!"

Nova squinted her eyes, spotting Steve and Peter combating. She closed her eyes, it was time to do something she kept avoiding, something she was dreading, it was her time to face him head on. She knew the effect Steve had on her, and it was his biggest weapon, it was a fight she was going to lose, but she had to give it a shot. She took a deep breath and flew towards them.
