Chapter 14: Vacation

Nova opened her eyes, squinting at the bright light. She was in a hospital room, next to her sat Nat, almost half asleep, her eyes were shut. Nova looked at her, trying not to move too much. "Nat..." She whispered. Her throat felt scratchy.

Nat woke up in an instant, she looked at Nova and smiled, "Good Morning."

"Oh, is it?" Nova asked.

"Morning? Yeah. Good? We'll see." Nat joked.

Nova looked down at her body, "Does my Dad know?" She asked.

"Not yet."

"Yeah, so, can we please not tell him?" She requested. Nat looked at her playfully.

"Sure." She said. "Our secret."

"Is Steve alright?" Nova asked.

"He's in this hospital somewhere, he's fine. Are you?" Nat asked.

"Well, putting all the injuries aside, I'm fine. A bit," She paused, the memory of the ending fight with Bucky, rushed to her head, "A bit, tired." She finished.

"Well let's hope you have time to rest." Nat said.

"Um," Nova looked down at her lap, "Any news on the soldier? On Bucky?"

The corners of Nat's lips turned up, "No. Why?"

"No reason. I feel bad for him, it's wrong what happened to him." She tried to form her feelings.

"Yeah, I know. I wouldn't worry about it too much, you're gonna see a lot of horrible stuff now that you're in this line of work." Nat spoke.

"Can't wait." Nova joked.

Sam, Steve and Nova were gathered in front of Nick Fury's 'Grave'. Nick arrived, wearing glasses and a hoodie, "So, you've experienced this sort of thing before?" He said.

Nova glanced at him, taken aback by the attire, "You don't look like yourself when you're not in a huge trench coat." She commented.

"Well, that's the point, Adler." He gave a witty response. "We've been data-mining HYDRA's files. Looks like a lot of rats didn't go down with the ship. I'm headed to Europe tonight, wanted to ask if you'd come." He asked Steve.

"There's something I gotta do first." Steve declined his offer.

Fury looked at Nova, she caught his look, he raised his eyebrow, "Oh no, I need like a five month vacation." Fury rolled his eyes.

"How about you, Wilson? Could use a man with your abilities." He offered.

"I'm more of a soldier than a spy." Sam said.

"Alright then," He shook hands with the three, "Anybody asks for me, tell them they can find me right here." He looked at the gravestone and walked away.

Just then Natasha arrived, "You should be honored, that's about as close as he gets to saying thank you." She said.

Steve walked over to her, they started conversing. Nova looked down at the ground, she had been holding something in for a while, and she knew she had to tell Steve now. Sam noticed Nova clouded in her thoughts, "You okay?" He asked her.

She looked up, "Yeah, yeah of course. Are you? Grieving your wings?" She snarked.

"I'm gonna need new ones, yeah." He said as he let out a chuckle.

"Eh, I might know a guy who could make you new ones." She said.

"Really, who?" Sam asked in a challenging tone.

"My dad," She shook her head a bit and looked away, "Tony Stark." She smirked. Sam's smug expression fell off.

"You are just full of surprises." He said.

Just then, Nat left. They walked over to Steve, he had a file in his hand, It was Bucky's, Nova stared at it carefully.

"You're going after him?" Sam asked.

"You two don't have to come along." Steve said. Nova looked up at Sam, smiling, they both knew that when you have the chance to do something with Captain America, you do it.

"I know. When do we start?" Sam asked, determined.

"I'll let you know." He said.

"You know where to find me." Sam said, as he walked away.

Nova watched Sam walk away, and she glanced up at Steve, she knew she had to tell him now. "Steve, remember that thing I had to tell you?" She said while staring at the ground.

"Yeah, go on." He nodded and folded his arms

"I know Bucky." She revealed. He looked at her with furrowed his eyebrows. "A few months ago, Hydra assigned the winter soldier to kill me, in my sleep. I was a threat. But when he stood there in my room, he couldn't do it."

"How do you know all that?" He inquired.

"Cap," Nova started, she didn't know how to explain it to him, She looked away. "My abilities, they're strange. Sometimes they surprise me, and I haven't discovered the full extent of them. When Bucky was in my room that night, he touched my forehead," She paused. "Somehow, all of his memories up until the point he touched my head, they were stored in my brain, and I forgot about them, like you would a dream, till I saw him that day on the bridge." She finished.

Steve took it all in. He sighed, "How were they? The memories."

"He seemed like a really good guy, Cap." She said.

Steve smiled, "He was."

"I'm sorry, Cap. About everything, I know how hard this must be on you." She sympathised.

"It's not for you to worry about. Come on," He said as he put his hand on her shoulder, "Let's get you home." They walked out of the graveyard.

A month later...

Nova sat in-front of a computer in Tony's Lab. Researching something and eating Chinese food right out of the box. Tony walked in, he saw her on his computer, "Hey! How many times have I told you not to touch my stuff!" He scolded.

Nova got startled and looked back at him, "Oh come on! Your tech is cool and stuff," She said.

He came up behind her, "What are you even doing?" He tried to look at the screen, but Nova jumped in-front of it, blocking the view.

"Hey! Hey! Private stuff!" She complained.

Tony rolled his eyes. "It's my computer!" He said as he walked to the other side of the lab, "You have gotten so much more attitude since you went on that mission with Cap, which by the way you don't give me details about." He smirked, "What happened? You meet a boy?"

Nova glanced at him, disgusted, "Ew! No! I don't have time for that!"

"Sure, kid." He said. "How was it though?"

"It was fine, a mission's a mission." She said vaguely.

"Says the girl, who's only been on one mission." He teased.

"Shut up, dad. It was exhausting. I think I'll go away for a while, on a vacation or something." Just then, the computer started beeping. She returned her gaze to it. She had gotten her results. She stared at the screen wide eyed, at the answer to the question that had been eating her alive for a month.

"Where?" Tony's voice broke her out her euphoria.

"What?" Nova said, distracted.

"I said, where are you gonna go?"

She looked back at him, "Huh? Oh, I think," She looked back at the computer screen, "I think, Romania."
